XJ Cooling System Deficiencies & Solutions

Thanks for the opinion, but that still does not provide any other suggestions as to what may be causing the periodic spikes in temperature. My XJ has confounded the independent and dealership mechanics for a couple of years now.

    (Searched) A/C Heater Vents Problem...

An old school trick to locate a vacuum leak. Start engine and let it idle. Remove vacuum lines one at a time and spray starter fluid into the line. If the RPM's increase then you've found the leak. The replace that section of line or fitting. Be methodical. Do one line at a time.

    Vaccum???????

The ventilation system is designed to default to defrost when the vacuum drops out. As previously stated, high loads (climbing hills, towing & lots of gear) will cause the vacuum to drop out. Cracked and decayed vacuum tubing is also a common issue. It only takes a pinhole to cause a loss of...

XJ Cooling System Deficiencies & Solutions

I'm still open to any suggestions... It still periodically overheats when climbing steep grades with the A/C on. It will be perfect at 210ºF all day, then instantly spike to 260ºF for no reason. I'll pull over, turn on the heater and let it cool off and it's fine for another few days. Usually...

3 different ASE Certified Techs (at 3 different garages) and TWO Jeep Dealerships are still scratching their heads over my erratic overheating issue. At least the rest of their anatomy gets a break from all the scratching. The last guy blamed a clogged cat...

    plasti-dip spray paint

Once it gets scratched or nicked, it begins to peel. You'd be better off using Duracoat (a coating used to protect guns). I needs to be applied with a small airbrush. It is as close to powder coating as you can get without baking the part in an oven.

XJ Tire & Wheel Combinations, Fender Clearance, Lift Requirement, Axle Ratio Chart

Re: XJ Tire & Wheel Combinations, Fender Clearance, Lift Requirement, Axle Ratio Char The chart was developed using the optimum RPM range at 55 mph (2700-3000 RPM). Going with a higher gear ratio, gives you more torque/climbing ability but worse mileage. Going lower, improves mileage but...

    Brake master cylinder questions.

I installed a M/C from a 1998-2003 Dodge Ram P/U 1500/2500/3500 PN: 23-21022. It has a 1.25 inch bore and 1/2" longer piston stroke. I was a DIRECT swap for the OEM M/C on my 1999 XJ, EXCEPT for having to fab a 1/2" longer push rod. Push rod modification: After removing the OEM M/C, grab...

    Mechanical fan CFM?

I used my sniper anemometer to measure the MPH of the airflow. With a little math, converted the radius to area, then to cubic feet per minute. I also did this to verify the advertised CFM of the Triple Threat electric fans that I installed - they were right on the money at 3400 CFM!
