    Front Driveshaft Clunk/Misalignment?

The retainer clips were seated correctly both times - I made sure with a socket and a couple taps of a hammer. The "shoulders" don't appear to be worn. Maybe just cheaply-made clips not in tolerance? Both were Autozone joints; the first a Brute Force, the latest a Duralast. Upon further...

    Front Driveshaft Clunk/Misalignment?

1989 XJ, 203K + miles, 5" lift, D30. I went wheelin' last December and possibly flexed too much and maybe pushed the driveshaft into the oil pan (?). There was a clunking in the front when I shifted into 2WD at the trailhead. I replaced the u-joint when I got home, no problem. Now I've only been...

Death wobble despite trying (almost) all solutions

Tires - keep them rotated/balanced and make sure you spray all the mud out after trail runs. Some aftermarket rims have bad runout and cause balance issues, even when professionally balanced. Some tires are bad too. Geometry - this is the biggest problem I see with DW cases. If your jeep isn't...

Orange wire melted - Crank but no start?

It was the relay. We'll see how long before the pump burns out. I'm only going to fill the tank half full for a while in case it does kick the bucket. Ballast resistor is fine after all these years, but I put electrician's tape on the body just in case. I think swapping the power latch relay...

Orange wire melted - Crank but no start?

Pump primes now (and I have a NEW spare), it starts, but doesn't run, relay has resistance. Gotta find a store that actually has the relay... I have 3 wieners and that same T-shirt! :)

Orange wire melted - Crank but no start?

Gonna try a new "fusible link" starter relay. I'm pretty sure the pump is shot too - Autozone pump #6 or 7, fuel got too low (?), pump got hot and died. Ballast resistor looks good. Haven't done anything in the engine bay, except Seafoaming the intake. I changed out the fuel pump relay and the...

Orange wire melted - Crank but no start?

1989 XJ. Got in to go to work - turned over, but no start. Kept trying and there was smoke coming out of the hood. Opened hood and tried again to see where the smoke was coming from...the orange wire on the starter relay was melted. Had no time to figure it out - my carpool buddy showed up in...

Power door lock upgrade + Viper alarm?

Another kudos to Greg Smith!!! WOW! After many, many years of putting off Greg Smith's door lock POWER upgrade on my '89 Limited, because of the differences in wiring, I finally did it because I upgraded to a Viper alarm from my Pioneer stereo with built-in alarm. But the Viper lock and unlock...

    Auto won't shift into OD

Now, now. What I am doing is not right. There needs to be changes, though. It seems like an endless cycle that dates almost all the way back when this site was a Vmag board. Geez, take a look at some other car forums if you think NAXJA is bad. DieselSJ has come the closest with the lockup. The...

    Auto won't shift into OD

Nope. I wanna be just like the people who don't report back with the real solution, so that the people who actually use the search have to come back and start a new thread, then get yelled at by these whiney babies who "THINK" they have all the answers to search, further preventing progress. I...

    Auto won't shift into OD

Atlanta? Really? The home of those idiot housewives on TV? You must be mistaking TPS for NSS. NSS is bad, but that has nothing to do with OD. Do you own search and see if you get anything for "transmission position sensor" then get back to me. If anything, it would be a servo switch and I'd have...

    Auto won't shift into OD

Thank you, Joe. Next? I'm going to go through it with a proverbial fine-tooth comb and come back with results. Gotta go through the other sites and see what I did last time this happened. It just went away before, buy why?

    Auto won't shift into OD

TPS is fine. TV cable is right where it needs to be. It is sometimes called a "kickdown cable," in the sense that it down-shifts. It idles high, so there has to be a vacuum leak somewhere, or maybe the MAP sensor is throwing it into closed loop...

    HELP PLZ!!! 89 XJ

If that DMM doesn't do it, Home Depot has one that beeps... Fuel pressure gauge - you don't need it. Even if your pump was bad, you'd still need to adjust your TPS.

    1992 cruise control wont engage

Uh-oh, I had a 4A fuse that I pulled, because for some reason the brakelights all of a sudden stayed on on day. I didn't even think of that! My NSS is still bad and the junkyards will only sell them with trans. "How about without the transmission?" "Okay, $400."

    Auto won't shift into OD

Now why would you think it would be the TV cable? Please read again. It WON'T shift into OD.

Brake light came on then brake pedal became soft

X100 - don't cheap out on your brakes, and if you are already into it adopt the "might-as-well" attitude.

    Auto won't shift into OD

1989 unLimited, 4.0l. The RPMS go up, but it stays in 4th. This has happened before when it got cold, but went away. I originally thought it was the Comfort/Power switch, but that doesn't change it. Maybe a vacuum leak, but everything looks okay. This happens after the engine warms up and it...

99 WJ Booster/MC swap in an 89 XJ

Didn't want to jinx it, but... Do yourself a favor and only use single flares - they work just fine, and I learned that you only need a double flare when joining two LINES in a compression fitting. Essentially, that is what the mating port does, but don't rely on that "nipple" to be strong...
