the xj is the wifes DD with the kids. We have 33 swampers on beadlocked rims for the tracks so i want a more road biased tyre (and summer tyre) for her to use every day.
the xj has 4.5" lift and has 4.56 ratios and dual lockers.
Which tyre would have safer/better road handling for the wife...
Globalization is a bitch let me tell you, and i should know i'm in manufacturing.
As an aussie i say go ARB they are great. However great to see new lockers on the market, good luck to Yukon. I have your gears in my bus and they are great, hope the lockers go well for you too.
just put in a new rear d44 that has 4.56 ratio, is it ok to leave the front diff with 3.55 till i change it over in 2 weeks?
i left the front drive shaft in, thinking all will be ok as long as i dont put it in 4wd
Only ever had semi floating axles so have a question about a diff i bought second hand.
i have a full floating D44 that is a custom job modelled off a warn kit. It's 4.56 ratio with ARB locker out of a TJ. I've modded it to fit the xj.
its' 5 on 4.5" still and is not free wheeling, so...
i have adjustable uppers and lower control arms.
How far can i push the front axle forward before i start having dramas with the steering, track bar or anything else?
Trying to make a tad more room for tyres and i've already trimmed and fit bushwacker flares, so dont want to trim any more...
i have now done a few sets of beadlocks and did most of my welds in 1 to 5 passes, and didnt' grind the start stops, but filled the weld pool properly if did a start stop. as said above some where done in 1 pass.
only one has a leak about of about 20 wheels, and it's such a minor leak, takes...
the 8 bolts for the stocker is all you need unless you are putting a hitch on the bumper or plan recover from the rear bumper.
in the above photos the extra flat bar welded to the bumper going through the rails offer almost no support to the bumper.
They will however support the bumper if...
washer bottle is on the left side of the car ( passenger here in aus)
and steering wheel is on the right hand side.
i drilled a hole in the washer bottle during the bushwacker install. that sucked. but the snorkel hole missed the washer bottle by a few inches.
this is where i purchased...
Step 8.
Cut up a plate to cover the hole, rivet it in place and seal all edges
Step 9.
Cover any small holes in airbox with silicone, I had a few factory holes that needed to be closed up
Step 10.
refit air box to jeep
Step 11.
Fit the flexible hose that you bought with hose clamps
and...
continuation of the build
This next part is the hard part and takes the longest, took me about 3-4 hours today to do
First things first
extra tools that i used and didnt mention in the 1st post.
rivets and rivet gun
silicone sealent
spare sheet metal tab to cover existing hole
this will be all...
dont need to sell them, they're super easy to build just make it yourself.
the hardest part is drilling the hole which you'd have to do with any snorkel.
and yes it's a RHD jeep so the antenna is not infront of me and is only 5 ft tall so really isnt a problem
here is how i'm making my cheap xj snorkel. all prices are Aussie dollars. 70cents US to each aussie dollar so should be even cheaper for you yanks.

this man speaks the truth.
easy weld to do, but make sure you grind any paint/powder coat off the rim before welding.
I used 24 bolt holes in 1/4" plate grade 250 steel
can post pics if you like.
