1991 Jeep Cherokee in need of a good home

Hi all, I haven't posted in a very long time, and usually just lurked anyway. After 22 years of ownership, the XJ is dead. I'm sad. It did it's job and kept my daughter safe when some texting idiot rear ended her. I'm very grateful for that. I had a buyer lined up (the body shop guy) to...

In search of tech nerds of a different flavor

Hello all! I have been cruising this website for many years, sometimes with my name in black and sometimes with my name in red. My XJ continues to chug along with it's original running gear (except for axles) as it passes 240,000 miles due in large part to the knowledge found within NAXJA and...

Ruined my new CSF three core radiator...any idea why?

'91 XJ, 4.0, AX15, NP231, D30, 29 spline 8.25, A/C if it matters. Well, I'm a little baffled by this. Here's the background. About 4 months ago I replaced my clogged stock radiator with a CSF 3 core brass and copper. (Very nice upgrade, BTW. The system's cooling ability is drastically...

    Walker down pipe question

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/ExhaustCouponScreen.asp Walker shows a different part number for the front pipe for 87-90(44320) and 91-92(44626). I have a '91 and was wondering if anyone knows the difference between the two. The 87-90 is just over HALF the price of the 91-92 locally...

    Homebrew Shifter Boots

I recently did a clutch system conversion on my '91 XJ. During disassembly I found that 2 of the 3 shifter boots were torn. Surprisingly, I didn't find much information on NAXJA regarding replacement...that doesn't happen very often! I provided a link to my blog where you can check out what I...

    Torn inner shift boot

I have been beating my head against the wall for the last few hours trying to find this part online, on the phone, at the junkyard, etc. Among other things, my inner shift boot is torn and I want to replace it. I am talking about the boot that is right under the 'main' boot that is visible...

AX-15 clutch woes...time to fix and upgrade.

I have a '91 XJ with an AX-15, internal slave cylinder type. I am looking for someone to check my work here before I get started on parts sourcing and clutch replacement. I haven't done the clutch on the XJ before so please excuse me if some of the terminology/thoughts are wrong. I know you guys...

    Naches...finally!

After a few false starts I finally made it up to Naches for the first time. What a great trail! I put up some pictures on my blog if you want to check it out. I just wish the pictures would do it justice. It was very scenic. I also need a camera that compensates for the jiggles...some of...

    Attention leaf spring gurus

I have a '91 with a 3 inch add-a-leaf in the rear spring pack. I am swapping in a 2001 axle and was planning on using the 2001 spring pack to replace my tired '91 springs. The 2001 springs are from a 2wd. My research indicates that the 2wd springs should not be different than my '91 4wd...

Dana 30 axle shaft paint question

I am painting my rebuilt D30. When I cleaned up my rusty axle shafts I really couldn't tell if there was paint mixed in with all of that rust. Should the axle shaft ears and part of the shaft be painted for corrosion protection, or is this a waste of time and effort that will have little benefit?

    Mopar Armor Alert

I was at the local pick and pull this morning and saw a full set of Mopar factory skid plates. The fuel tank skid is in great condition, removed already, and sitting in the rear cargo area of a white '96 2 door XJ. The front skid was there too, also removed. I can't vouch for condition on the...

    Alternate UCA bushing removal idea

I am rebuilding a D30 for my XJ and, as with everything else, it is taking longer than I had planned. I removed everything from the passenger side of the axle, and it was time to take out the upper control arm bushings. I had read on NAXJA that some had used a sawzall to cut the bushing and...

    New disks...old pads...OK?

My XJ budget is small. With that said, I am about to replace my D30 with another one. I replaced the brake pads on my current axle about 4000 miles ago but didn't turn the rotors. They have been squeak/trouble free and I was wondering if I could reuse the pads on the new axle, with new disks...

    Chrysler 8.25 pinion angle

First off, my specs so you all know where I am: Skyjacker 3" lift, AAL in the rear No SYE AX-15/NP231 stock NP231 to D35 driveline I just picked up a 2001 Chrysler 8.25 29 spline (with springs attached) to swap with my Dana 35. The axle came out of a 2WD Cherokee, auto, 4.0L. I was checking...

    Transmission mount/torque arm

Howdy all, I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L, AX-15, and NP231. I just received a transmission/motor mount kit from Quadratec. Included in the kit is a torque arm and torque arm bushings. What the heck are these? I can't find them anywhere around my transmission's mounting point...

    Somebody lose an XJ?

I saw an XJ today in Capitol Forest that appears to be abandoned. I know it has been there for at least 3 weeks so far, as it was there last time I went through. It is a navy blue 1991 2 door. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone from NAXJA was looking for it. I have more details about it...

    Daystar EVS foam bumpstops

http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/tech/0801_4wd_1997_jeep_cherokee/photo_02.html Has anyone ever used these type of bumpstops? I have 3" of lift with 31's and only need to limit up travel by a few inches. I was going to use hockey pucks but figured that a stop on the shocks themselves would...

    Evan's Creek

Is Evan's Creek covered in snow this time of year? At ~3300' I would expect it to be, but has anyone been up there lately? I haven't been up there yet, but was considering it tomorrow if it ISN'T snow covered. Thanks.

    Pictures

I just started a new blog a few months ago and put some pictures of Tahuya up yesterday. There isn't much on it but I thought some of you might be interested. More to come in a while though! We are planning on doing Evans Creek in the spring and Naches this summer. Tahuya was a lot of fun...
