Header recommendations? 98 XJ with fact. crack

I have a 98 XJ with the factory header crack. It's gotten really bad. The rest of the exhaust is going to be redone, probably reusing the glass pack I've already got. I haven't had a cat for a decade. This jeep ONLY runs off road, and is used increasingly infrequently. I looked on Amazon...

Replace Factory Headers or Buy New?

So I have the infamous leaking at the weld in the exhaust headers. 1998 XJ classic 4.0L with ~100,000 miles, now only driven on forestry roads and in the snow. The exhaust header (not cast iron manifold) is leaking at the junction between the two banks; I can see the crack. I'm going to pull...

    AW4 Manual Kickdown to First

It looks like I'm going to have to rebuild my 1998 AW4 transmission. I'll probably also do the NP231 at the same time. One of my big complaints with this setup is that it won't stay in first, and will upshift to second gear. I'm recalling a way to install a switch that will keep it in first...

Accidentally flat towed in neutral, now tranny is slipping?

1998 XJ, 104,000 miles. My bad, I flat towed my XJ behind my daily driver. with the transmission engaged but in neutral. Normally, I put the transfer case in neutral, but it was raining while I was hooking up and I wasn't paying attention. I just put the transmission in neutral (x-fer case...

Replacement Seats to fix "Stink Jeep"?

I have a "stink jeep" problem in my lightly modified 1998 XJ. It's pretty bad. It is a mixture of rat urine/feces and mold, from the Jeep sitting for a few years. I've tried the usual remedies, and I still can't get anyone to ride in it. It actually makes the whole garage stink if I park it with...

Anyone got a PCM diagram for the 1998 XJ?

Anyone got a PCM diagram for my 1998 XJ? I'm trying to trace back a wire and figure out a problem.

    ARB/Differential Torque Values

Disclaimer: I'm used to working on european motorcycles, which have torque values for every drain plug and body panel fastener, so maybe I'm just being paranoid. I am putting this (now repaired) ARB air locker back into my 98 XJ (Dana 30). At some point, there are certain bolts (diff...

    Need an old O2 Sensor

I am working on a project, and need the female plug from your second old O2 sensor. I don't need the sensor, just the plug, so it doesn't make any sense to buy the whole thing. If you have an old O2 sensor sitting around, PM me; I'd appreciate you dropping it in the mail to me.

NP 231 Stripped out fill plug

I had a shop install my SYE, and they stripped out the fill plug. The drain plug is good, and I've been filling it through the speedo. The hole is now totally circular, due to my various methods of trying to get it out. Any quick fixes to get it out? Am I really going to have to drill it?

Do you have an old junked ARB sitting around?

I ripped up my Dana 30 ARB 27 spline air locker (the older style). The short side is fine, which is normally the side that gets junked up. I need the flange side to complete my ARB. The company no longer makes or stocks this part, so I have to find a used one or buy a whole new locker. List...

    Rebuilding an ARB

1998 XJ, front Dana 30 long side axle blew up. I'm trying to rebuild the ARB. My first question is: Is this chunk salvagable? It looks like the axle housing is okay, with the seal taking the majority of the damage. Anyone know of a place in the US that stocks replacement parts for an...

What weight gear oil for a Dana 30 w/ ARB??

What weight gear oil do I use for a Dana 30 w/ an ARB? I'm remembering I had to do something special, but can't remember what it was. I try to buy all Royal Purple.

So that's what that noise was..... Opinions?

So I'm running a 98 XJ, with 31's and ARB's in both axles. I was getting silly up in the snow/mountains and thought I popped a U-joint in the long side shaft. I got it home and pulled the shaft to replace the U-joint and find this: So I think these were the stock axles, maybe not...

    Programming Keyless Entry Remote

I ordered the remotes from the ebay, with the full understanding that the dealer will charge me to reprogram them (I finally broke the other one). I also ordered two key blanks because I am down to my last single key. My question: Does the dealer HAVE to have the vehicle to program the...

    Steering Gearbox Care

So I noticed that a lot of play in my steering seems to be where my (aftermarket) steering arm actually attaches to the output splines of the steering gearbox. It looks like just tightening the nut would help, but if I recall correctly overtightening or using an impact wrench to tighten it will...

Glasspack with no cat (offroad only), anybody got a dummy 02 sensor part number?

I'm running my jeep off road only, and it is registered in a state with no inspection (for insurance only). A few years ago, the cat clogged and started overheating the engine, so I replaced the whole factory setup with a simple glass pack straight muffler. Needless to say, now I have a check...

    Diamond plate behind rear tire

I remember seeing someone had the little diamond plate pieces made up that fit behind the rear tire after you take off the bumper clip. Does anyone have a link or know where to pick up a pair?

    Rear Liftgate Pneumatic Air Springs

I just brought my 98 home from Colorado. Believe it or not, what worked just fine at 8,000 feet doesn't keep the liftgate up at sea level. Anybody got a part number or better answer than just replacing them from the auto parts store. The ones from NAPA only seem to last about a year before...
