    Rekeying ignition tumbler

How about just cutting one side of the key for the Jeep, the other for the truck? If it works, it would solve the problem of the door lock on one of the vehicles. Just put a little notch on one side of the head so you know which way is up for the Jeep!

1987 XJ Cherokee Track Bar need torque specs

Don't forget to torque the track bar bracket to frame nuts and bolts. It can be a source of popping noises while turning!

    Strange trim levels (photos)

Nice Jeep Rodrigo XJ! That "Remington" logo looks exactly like the one used by Remington Rifles/Shotguns, etc!

    Renix off idle stumble.

Did you check the EGR transducer, black plastic disc next to the EGR valve? Seems I remember those would plug up and allow the EGR valve to open before the correct amount of exhaust backpressure was present. Also, does the stalling occur before or after the engine reaches normal temp? How...

    reverse tail lights don't work

Easy test with a meter before changing out the switch. Just unplug the switch from the harness under the hood, clip your meter leads to "A" and "E" as marked on the connector, put the meter where you can see it from inside the Jeep, get in, unlock the wheel and shift to reverse. Got...

    reverse tail lights don't work

Not sure if the previous owner did it, or it came from the factory, but mine had one of the wires to power/comfort switch pinched between the wedge and nut that holds the steering column up to the dash. Kept blowing the "trans" fuse, causing no b/u lights.

    Bend Oregon

Another grey-haired mountain biker, are ya? :) Phil's is rad! Rode from the trailhead up to Tumalo Falls. 100 degrees out and riding through patches of snow! But the ride I want to do again, is start at Lava Lake, ride up to Kwohl Butte snow shelter, and make a lap around Mt. Bachelor...

    Bend Oregon

Not from Bend, but my Jeep is! (sold new at Smolich's) I try to get down ther at least a couple of times a year for some Mountain Biking. And I know I will be there at least once next year, for my "Fifty Miles of Phil's", in honor of my (sigh) 50th Birthday!

    Overheating Issues

Make sure there are no cracks in the coolant tank, and the cap fits on tight. I went through this same problem after replacing the tank and cap, only to find the new cap was bad. Put my old cap on, and all is good! The upper hose should be hot, and hard (pressurized) after a few minutes of...

    Skinny or wide in winter?

For a lot of highway driving, skinny winter tires, either snowflake designation or studs, not all season, with lots of tread. Beware of slush! :scared: From your other post, I put the best tread on the front, figure stop/turn is better than go.

    ZJ Problem?

Here's something to look at: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1998/18-48-98/18-48-98.htm I'd check the cap & rotor, and the super long coil wire.

    Whats wrong with my Renix.

I'm quessing a big difference in the automatic harness is the plug for the tranny control module over on the passenger side, behind the lower dash trim (below the junk bin). Mines a plain jane model, so it has plenty of unused connectors/wires under the dash for the uninstalled options!

    Whats wrong with my Renix.

btw... I have a 87 with an automatic. I looked under the dash, and I can see the black/yellow wire, except where you have the one, I have the black/yellow, with a tan, and a blue/yellow, in a 3-way connector, maybe a foot out of the harness. It mates with a connector that has smaller gauge...

    Whats wrong with my Renix.

Extra wires: part of TSB 18-51-88 Someone was lazy doing the CPS patch harness TSB. Instead of removing the wires from the connector, and replacing them with the patch harness ends, they just cut the wires and butt spliced them in. The old terminals were supposed to be snipped off, and the...

So i know a few of you have got nice old cars....

Mine qualifies as old...not sure about the nice! ('68 Camaro) Last time I was at Rod Run was '96 I think. Can remember a bunch of us convoyed there from Portland. Talk about a traffic jam getting into town!! But the Show and Cruise were fun, and afterwards we sat out on the balcony of the...

    cash for clunkers

It is a shame. Saw on CBS News last night, the most traded-in vehicles for the program are: 1. Explorer 2. Cherokee 3. Grand Cherokee All those u-pull-it parts...gone.

    87-91 vs 92 - up cooling systems

Ahhh..yes! Glowing red exhaust manifolds, warped ThermoQuad fuel bowls, and spark computers! I can remember the Chrysler tech looking at me with a straight face, explaining " naw, that's not pinging, we call it the sound of ecomony!" They sure don't build 'em like they used to! LOL! Back OT...

    Headlight problem

No fuse per se, a fuse link at the starter relay, and a circuit breaker built into the headlamp switch. But it is shared with the highbeams so you are probably ok fuse wise. Seems like I remember reading about a connection around the air cleaner box that would cause problems. Might trace the...

RENIX no start... no fuel...., no clue...

Make sure you have a good (as in clean and tight) connection where the CPS plugs into the injection harness.
