    88 xj - $750 obo - MI

Just as the title says - 88 xj, renix 4.0, Ba/10 trans (manual), don't know what T-case it's got but its got 2, 4hi, N, and 4Lo on the shifter (dont know if they're available with a part time case or not) The thing has 235k on it - dont think its the original motor or trans. I bought it a year...

    which synthetic gear oil

You want more info.....http://www.boss302.com/oil.htm That's a link to some good oil info that can be found online, because atleast then people are more prone to believe it (and yes that's a quite a good summary of oil) Synthetic oil is the way to go, without a doubt, but I think someone would...

    which synthetic gear oil

All you ever wanted to know about oil -The wider the range of viscosities on the oil, the less durable and resistant it is to 'Viscosity Index Breakdown'. For example, 10W-30 oil does not have as much 'V.I. Improver' as 5W-30, so there are fewer additives to be broken down by the shearing of the...

    lincoln locked rear?

So, I'm looking at buying a jeep with a welded 35 (which is a POS anyhow). Anyone ever DD one of these? How long did it hold up for and how bad was it on the road? Just pondering if I should plan on doing an axle swap within the first two months, or later down the road....

    Anyone break an 8.8 shaft?

Can you change the title of this to "Straight up E-Thug Show Down"

    which synthetic gear oil

Quite funny, got any proof how "synthetics are better than regular oil, PERIOD." There are apps when dino is better than synthetic, such as engine break in (which I'd run it until atleast 8k), and as far as the semi synthetics go i'd steer as far clear of them as you can - they're more a...

I missed that part too...just saw the inner fender liner part

    bfg's or mt/r's?

Not true... I'm not stating that it's this way with the MTR's, which are meant for the crowd who doesn't really care if a tire takes 10 oz. to balance. But, for what it's worth the shop I work at is a tire rack recommended tire installer - we see alot of tires, and most are for high end...

    Round thing behind fender liner

It's a vacuum reserve for the HVAC and cruise system, just as stated. The only time it really makes a difference in the vehicle is when the engine is operating at or near WOT (which would make for low vacuum in the manifold). It basically allows cruise to stay engaged when vacuum is low, and...

    bfg's or mt/r's?

Dunno, up here in MI most people have better luck with BFG's on the street. I've done quite a bit of tire work myself in a shop, and I'd say that the goodyears are of lesser quality than the BFG's and wear faster from what I've seen. The BFG's I've had have all lasted 45k and then I replace...

88 XJ engine and trans swap ?'s

aliright, so basically then a 4.0 long block is a 4.0 long block - even though there are internal differences throughout the years, they'll still work with the stock externals (manifolds ETC) and sensors......

88 XJ engine and trans swap ?'s

alright, one more newb ? - will basically any 4.0 out of a TJ/YJ work (go in and run fairly easy without a whole lot of swap/fab) in the XJ? I would assume they would, but want to make sure before I get something

How do I lean out oil passages to lifters?

500 miles on 1qt of ATF isn't really that much. Now had you said 6qt's ATF ran for 10 mins that'd be different. However, the problem that would arise with internal cleaners is they usually lead to clumps in the bottom of the pan. If the engine is that bad, I'd be weary of the gunk and sludge...

Oil catch can for Crankcase ventilation tubes?

That is the answer, just wanted to see if you knew (as your name is Dr. Dyno....). Most everything now has a pcv for emissions reasons....

Oil catch can for Crankcase ventilation tubes?

Now I assume you know what your talking about, but then why on some NA engines (as most do have a PCV) when the PCV sticks open (constantly allowing the crank case vapor into the intake) will it set a code?

88 XJ engine and trans swap ?'s

Dfreeman - home for me is ann arbor (around there) 75SV - link no workie..I'm way interested in that link. One of the main things I was worried about with a newer engine is the higher fuel pressure spec and then having to upgrade the current fuel system on the thing to make the engine run...

    Vortec misfire

Try taking a propane torch - not lit, just so the propane comes out of it, and put it by the intake manifold gasket by cylinder number five while the things in the range that it typically misses. If the miss goes away, the intake gasket is bad. If you're ballsy you can use carb clean I've...

88 XJ engine and trans swap ?'s

The one in the jeep now has 232k on it....but it leaks like a siv.....if they weren't so expensive to rebuild (i'm a broke student) I'd do it, but I figure why when there are cheaper alternatives that are stronger anyhow?

88 XJ engine and trans swap ?'s

Well, I guess that makes me think more about buying a whole jeep..... The swap isn't really something i'm worried about - I've done many swaps before....if the peugot tranny wasn't such a POS i'd leave it in, but from everything I've read the tranny is junk....and the one in the jeep right now...
