The three studs that hold the front of the skid are 8mm.
The ones at the junk yards I've looked at had nutserts installed for these studs. The holes in my 91 where made in such a way that I think they where intended for self tapping 8mm studs. Of course I could be wrong.
I just drilled...
Not too cheap just in the wrong area.:D Evidently there are alot more of these up north. I've looked through every yard around here and came up empty. Best I found was a 4.10 trac-loc 8.8 for $250 but after the spacers and brackets I'll have more in it than I think it would be worth.
I finally figured out a way to install them without the installation tool. You need a bolt, nut, washer and a nut that is too large for the bolt and will slide over the threads. Assemble the bolt with the small nut going on first then the large nut then the washer. Insert the nutsert into the...
I would set it up as an auto/manual switch.
You need a 3 position maintained selector switch.
The switch will have an auto(on when highbeams on, off when dim), manual(lights on all the time), and off position.
You would then wire one side of the switch to a wire that has power when...
My XJ with over 200K used to do the same thing. Changing the oil always made the problem go away for at least 3K miles.
I decided to replace the rod bearings and when I took the pan off the problem was obvious. There was at least a full handfull of small pieces of gunk in the bottom of the...
I've only heard good things about the C4x4 rails. I have the 2" square ones but haven't hit anything with them on a trail yet. I did lift the entire side of the XJ off the ground with a Hi-Lift when I put them on. I didn't see any flexing.
I got mine from Daniel at Denali Offroad. He had...
Thanks guys
I know of a place that might have them in town and now that I know what I need I can go check.
If not I saw that McMaster Carr has them and will probably order from them.
I'm trying to install a factory skid and need to know what you guys have done to get a nut in the rear hole on the frame rail. I assume that I need a Nutsert, If so can I get them local from Home Depot, Lowes, Advance, or Autozone?
Does anyone know what size bolt was used at the factory...
OK, I went to another junk yard today and only found grey ones again.
The male part of my latch has two holes in it. There seems to be at least three types of male tabs. One is slim with one hole, the other is fat with one hole in the center and one notch cut out of each side.
billygoat and...
Thanks guys.
It looks like I need to find out what years will fit properly.
I've only found grey ones at the yards I've looked through and didn't really even look to check the model and belt style.
Light was not the problem as I had my Surefire with me. :D This yard had alot of grass and briars that had to be cleared before I could see the pumpkin. All the wheels being gone also didn't help.
I'm pretty sure I had a front D44 for a Chevy truck that had 2.5" tubes was why I was wondering...
Does the XJ D44 have 2.5" axle tubes?
I've been looking for one and sometimes I just see the small tubes and think D35.
Sometimes it's hard to see the pumpkin in the junkyard.
I ended up with $425 to my door in all parts from three people. $260 shipped in the springs alone.
I did the alignment myself following instructions from GoJeep.com.
I just installed 930's, JC1A's, and N35 & N36 shocks. All parts where used.
I got 19.25" front and 18" rear from center of axle to bottom of flare after lift. This is 1.75" front and 1" rear over the "factory specs".
I do have a lot of weight in the back and on the roof which acounts for...
Do you have to abuse the D35 to break it or is the housing the weak link? I'm easy on equipment and typically won't try to go places that only momentum will take me.
I was afraid of that.
Maybe I can at least find an open 97+ 8.25 with 4.10s.
Thanks, I think the 4.10's will be a big improvement over my 3.55's. I just hope it isn't geared to low with my current 235's. They have a lot of life left.
I was set on ordering a No-Slip for my D35 but thought since I'm down a little on power from a roof rack and 235's (soon to be 31's) that now is the time to upgrade to an 8.25.
I know that the 4.10's came in the 4 cylinder XJ's but how many of those came with the LS? What's the easiest way to...
