    generally xjs get away with allot due to the stabalizing effect of leaf packs (zjs and wjs have it worse) generally they have a pretty bad geometry setup to get death wobble on an xj with a mild lift. go with RE or a kit and you will be fine its the parted kits that must be researched...

    pop open the distributor like 99% chance you got some condensation or moisture in it that exactly what they do when it gets wet in there.

    4.2 will bolt to the tranny but the head will not bolt up the water jacket holes will not line up. Just did the stroker conversion on my 90 cherokee and had a 4.2 and a 4.0L sittin in the garage for a bit and we looked b/c we also have a 74 CJ w/ the 4.2.

    yeah i hear ya on the stupid laws we have a 74 CJ-5 that failed inspection due to no warm air riser... Soooo we went to the local junk yard and grabbed an aircleaner that fit w/ a warm air rise built into it and ploped it on top of the 4 barrel holley and installed it with the warm air riser...

    if you get the choice do a 96 or newer block we did research on the blocks and with 96 and newer it has a dowel in the head to help hold the head in place maybe not much but it can't hurt to help keep that head gasket alive. Also the 96 and up is about 15 lbs heavier due to thicker webbing...

    i'd be careful goin over 3.5 your talkin a new drive shaft potentially i have a np242 TC and the RE 3.5 super flex kit and the rear drive shaft is so short it is nearly bottoming out (~2-3") and that is the driveshaft knuckles bottoming out. That is kind close for my comfort. Love the kit...
