Did you check to see if you got water in your distributor cap?

That is what mine had too...

My 87 had the up country package. It came with 1" taller suspension( I am assuming stiffer springs f/r) and Factory skid package. If the donor had the package then they would be stiffer...

Looks like a stock shaft to me.
