Went to put the motor in and can't find the upper plate, but have two lowers. If someone has an upper one sitting around let me know. The local salvage yard has nothing. May be able to arrange pick-up in southern MN or central IA.
Thanks!

I've still got our stock 84 one sitting around in a box, if you can't come up with anything lemme know and I can grab the sock off of it. "Only" 170,000+ miles, so I'm sure it's clean ;)
Like you I'm inclined to think it's not a Jeep specific part, you'll just have to figure out what else...
Sorry, must've missed that when I was looking ...
That is weird, I could've sworn that was one of the things listed as changed when the KJ was released. I probably read it once and never followed up on it. I'm a little surprised you don't see more swaps between them, though there isn't...
The 10 hole XJ rims have a variation that doesn't have the fake bead lock bolts on it. I believe that was on the 91ish sports.
Did the KK go "back" to a 5x4.5" bolt pattern after all the other Jeeps switched to it ?
This may be way off base, but we had a "belt squeal" on our ZJ that turned out to be the distributor shaft binding up. Granted the OPs XJ doesn't have a traditional distributor, it will still have the cam position sensor and plug in there to drive the oil pump. Might want to be absolutely sure...
I keep meaning to, but they have 2 yards locally, one with XJs and one without, the one with is open M-F 8-5 only ... 6" of snow this weekend isn't going to make it any more fun either.
I need some other bits though and have only a partially booked day Wed, maybe I can make it over there then...
I'm looking at trying to hook up the 97+ (non heated) to our 84 (non power). I don't suppose anyone has some extra plugs from the doors so I don't have to hack the wiring off of the mirrors ? I just need the pigtails, I'll run my own wire to another switch actually.
Did I read that right that...
I've been working on the roof-rack stuff quite a bit lately. There are at least 3 different styles of roof-rack from the factory. The side rails that hold the cross bars are put in with some rubber encased nuts that are set into holes drilled in the roof.
The earliest version (as we have on...
Did you check the grounds ? Check at the bulb to be sure you have voltage on one side of the connector, then check to see if there's continuity to ground on the other side (and/or voltage across the connectors). The right side lights on my truck were both out after a couple years in storage...
Uhm, I hate to tell you this, but it is normal for the headlights to stay on after you turn off the Jeep. Unless you have the sentinel or some other "automatic" feature on the headlights, they are going to stay on as long as the switch is on.
Check your engine to firewall grounding strap too...
I'm working on the multi-port fuel injection upgrade on our 84 XJ Chief and it's painfully obvious the stock power-steering setup is just not going to work well (unless I run the return fuel line right through the fill neck).
I'm digging around online to see if the 2.5L did anything different...
I did some more research on this and I just want to make sure I have everything right.
Your Jeep is a 1985 Cherokee (XJ) with the 2.8L V6 (W engine code, so VIN starts 1JCWB....), and a 4 speed automatic ?
Could you post some pics of the transmission itself ? Primarily the pan shape. I'm...
