    Ford 8.8 Build Thread

Let's, for a moment, talk "bump Stops" for the 8.8 builds. I put my 8.8 in a year ago, but haven't had time to add the stops. It's been a trailer hauling 'streeter' for long enough...I'm just wondering if there are any photo examples showing how you accomplished it, and a quick note about what...

    Harbor Freight Plasma Torch

Loads of research has led me to: http://parkermetalworking.com/ If it gets sensored, that's; Parker Metal working dot com...there are tons of positive reviews of their machines, by professional metal workers, on many talk forums. Go forth and build!

    Speedometer Gear Install

Problem doesn't lay with reinstalling the sensor, after gear install...it lay's with installing the gear INTO the sensor. Like I said the old one pops in and out with two fingers pressure. The new one, not even close. We've had 60mph winds for the last two days so, I haven't gotten out to try...

    Speedometer Gear Install

The original pops on and off with two finger pressure...I put my palm on the new gear and couldn't force the thing in with all my strength and I'm no sissy. It had a pretty good amount of tranny fluid on it when I started but, I guess I could try some grease on it. Thanks for responding, Sr

    Speedometer Gear Install

So I get this new gear, after waiting for a couple weeks, and I'm trying to install it. The old one comes out easy enough, but I can't even force the new one into the sensor body. It doesn't "snap" like the old one does. I don't see any "visual" differences between the old and new shafts, but...

    Identifying a 29 spline 8.25

mflueras, Thank you for your response. I just had to ask, just in case....I'm not sure that I trust the wrecking yards around here and the ones that say they have 8.25's, within driving distance, have already pulled them from the vehicle's...so I'm at their mercy to disclose the proper year of...

    Identifying a 29 spline 8.25

good lord man....I was asking if there were VISUAL differences that I might be able to notice! When shopping for these I've noticed that the axles are laying on the ground, or in a rack.....no visible DATES of manufacture are present. I can tell the difference between a D44, D35, 9" ford, 8.8...

    Identifying a 29 spline 8.25

Also: I'm wondering if there was a break in the year that they went to 29 splines. Everything that I've been reading 1996 was the break...so are all the 96 axles, 29 spline, or is it 1997 and up only? I really need a new rear axle and don't want to get anything less than 29 splines, otherwise...

    Identifying a 29 spline 8.25

Is there a way to visually tell the difference between a 27 and 29 spline version, without knowing what year it came off of? I've found several deals where the axles are laying on the ground and are claimed to be 1996 or newer (supposedly 29 spline) but I'm leary of paying for one, only to find...

    Nubbie Decision

I figured on using the 1987 XJ main leaf as my second, in the pack. Since I already have the freebee parts, I didn't think I could go too wrong. Also read on this forum about using Grand springs for the front for ~2" of lift up there...CC784 CarQuest springs. If I couldn't get all 2" with the...

    Nubbie Decision

So the big gaping wound of a hole that the disco leaves isn't a "big" deal, as far as strength? I was most concerned with that...I read somewhere about replacing the two piece axle with a single and putting on a substantial cover...Oh, it's in my XJ builders book. I really appreciate you're...

    Nubbie Decision

I have a 1999 with AX15 and 3:07 gearing. I also just recently aquired a set of axles from a 87 with 4:10's. My Jeep has ABS brakes. My plan is to do a Bastard lift to achieve 3" and run 31's. I'm not planning on anything higher, or any larger tires...I have a bunch of kids and the rig is a...
