    NP229 swap...help

I have searched but not gotten a good solid answer... I have an '84 with an NP229 that is getting retired from the 5 min commute to work, so now it is serious trail time. A. Should I replace the poorly designed vaccuum case with an NP231 or maybe a 242? Should I look to swap out the...

    Xtreme Mud Terrain?

My friend just got a set of these for his Toyota, they are ok in the mud, stayed kinda gummed up though. Good on the clay terraces (closest thing to rock crawling here), decent in the sand. GREAT on the street, quiet, they handle nicely, if it's a daily driver i'd like 'em. Nice tires overall...

(84 XJ) had 3" rough country, added 2" budget, and now my rear DS aint in all the way

Re: (84 XJ) had 3" rough country, added 2" budget, and now my rear DS aint in all the way Most '84 models I have seen had the NP229 or NP228 transfer case. It is the first "Selec-Trac" case that I know of. It is NOT a very good transfer case and if it does not have enough vacuum the 4wd won't...

    junkyard lift

The add-a-leaf kit was from pro-comp, I think I paid like $40 or so. However, an S-10 pack is probably a better idea, for the add a leaf you already have to remove the pack anyway. Might as well build a better riding spring than the AAL can provide you. I purchased 8 cyl. coils and would go a...

    junkyard lift

I have an old beater '84 2.5 so not really worth dumping alot of money into- so I went this route. I purchased spicer '78 f-100 coils (like $50) 2 1/2" spacers and add-a-leaves in rear with MJ shackles. Netted about 4 3/4" in front and about 4" in rear, used Explorer shocks in rear (pain in the...

    Tires for lifted DD

I've had some 31x10.50 Dayton Timberline MT's on for 10,000 or so miles now. First on my Grand Wagoneer and now the xj. They haven't worn much yet, that I can tell and they have been rotated and balanced twice in those miles. Good in the mud, so-so in the sand, and have good handling properties...

    Correct Water Pump

Ok, i've asked recently about the overheating problems that I've had in my '84 (2.5). It is still overheating after the block flush. I wanted to make sure I had the correct water pump and need some more help. The motor was from an '84 cj-7 (2.5) and was v-pulley in lieu of the serpentine. I put...
