Re: New Project... wife says it is ugly :(
A friend and I recently cut out my '98's badly rotted rockers and welded 4x4x3/8 square tube to the frame rail (the pinch seams were too far gone). Relatively easy and quick. It helped that my friend is a welder and his son works at a shop that does...
I used '07 Liberty disc parts on my '98 XJ. Easy install, except theLib. hard line is metric; the Xj, standard. No need to change the proportioning valve.
By coincidence, I just had a shop drop the pan and change the fluid this week. On my invoice is "Filter, AW4 Jeep 4x4 #S97712", as well as a pan gasket.
I was led to believe that there is a filter "envelope", besides the screen.

Thanks to all who replied. The last tip about using a hose is a great idea for the future - Thanks - but the mechanic sprayed some "stink eliminator" under the dash, in the heater vents, etc. Anyhow, he found nothing to do but recharge my Optima.
I drove it North this weekend with...

I was able to find help for several of these problems by searching the OEM forum.
1. There's a great write-up for jumping the window switch wires. After years of messing with the switch, this was about a five-minute fix that has held for over a year.
3. Likewise the guage cluster. Some forums...
UPDATE: Thanks for the replies. I re-installed the brake light switch, re-connected the battery cable (after letting it sit for approx. 2 hours), and the problem corrected itself - so I am guessing that the suggestion that a relay was defective is probably correct. Thanks, again.
My '98 (also Michigan) developed the same problem, just now when we returned home after a drive of about 2 hours. All of the rear lamps remained on. Messing with - and ultimately pulling the break lamp switch made little difference.
I've disconnected the battery and left it outside the...
