I used '07 Liberty disc parts on my '98 XJ. Easy install, except theLib. hard line is metric; the Xj, standard. No need to change the proportioning valve.

By coincidence, I just had a shop drop the pan and change the fluid this week. On my invoice is "Filter, AW4 Jeep 4x4 #S97712", as well as a pan gasket. I was led to believe that there is a filter "envelope", besides the screen.

Thanks for the advice. It has occured to me that since my key also is worn (it can be removed while the engine keeps running), so maybe I didn't switch it off, completely. I'll get the XJ back from the mechanic, tomorrow, and check further. Thanks so much. Jim

UPDATE: Thanks for the replies. I re-installed the brake light switch, re-connected the battery cable (after letting it sit for approx. 2 hours), and the problem corrected itself - so I am guessing that the suggestion that a relay was defective is probably correct. Thanks, again.

sorry - that's "BRAKE" switch. Also, my problem is not with intermittant operation - they're just staying on.
