    towing with a wj

Interesting, explains some of the stuff I had wondered about and yes I had to take another driving test to be able to tow a 3500kg trailer. I do have Jeeping friends that tow with import Ram 3500 diesels just so they never have to slow and can push the 60mph limit even up hill. Makes sense if...

    towing with a wj

In the UK towing with a WJ is pretty common, we don't have much bigger vehicles like the pickups you get to buy in the US. All our weight capacities are metric but the WJs are the same. WJ rated to tow 3500kg (7700lb) Car trailer (in UK) is normally 400-800kg (880lb - 1760lb) XJ on 35s like...

Can you message me a price for a hpD30 unit and whether you can do international shipping?

    OTA track bar questions

I feel a ridiculous over-build of the bracket coming on. Thanks for the advice, I'll post some pics of the carnage and the new mount when it's done.

    OTA track bar questions

Thanks for the advice so far. I like the Inner C mounted one for gaining a bit of length because I have a bit of bumpsteer (nothing unbearable). I have broken welds and torn 1/4" plate on my trackbar mount twice now with the WJ steering setup and a straight trackbar (Clayton double Johnny Joint...

    OTA track bar questions

Just looking at mine, you have obviously moved the coil bases back and even with this I'd need to build a smaller diameter track bar than I currently have. Final couple of questions before I get dismantling: - Is there more to it than just fitting new coil bases further back (central over tube...

    OTA track bar questions

Thread resurrection - sorry. With the inner C mount for the track bar, can you give me all the details about the materials used, how it was welded, everything. Apologies again for being demanding, I've just ripped off an axle mount on my RHD XJ with WJ steering setup and always disliked the...

    Full Traction ?

I run the 6" kit here in the UK and the big heims on the lower arms wore out after a couple of years (~10k miles). The big difference is probably the amount of mud and wet sand that I drive in - it destroys any joint, driveshaft, pulleys etc. I'm used to greasing and servicing spherical joints...

    XJ diesel engine swap

The VM diesel has a fairly poor record in the UK, especially pre-97 ones. The symptoms of head gasket failure can actually indicate the separate heads becoming porous and needing replacement.

    XJ diesel engine swap

Have a search on some of the UK forums, PM me if you need some help finding them or getting answers. I'm a 4.0 driver so can't answer your questions but there is plenty of diesel tech available on the club sites over here in the UK.

    Toyota axles

Nissan Patrol and Landcruiser 80-series axles are the ones to go for. The front axle will need professional modification to change the side of the diff though. I understand this is a fairly common swap in Aus, a guy over here in the UK has just shown me his Patrol axle conversion, done on a TJ.

Cherokee DoubleCardan-Rezeppa (Double CV shaft) ???

I know one person over here that used the same style driveshaft in a rear application when fitting a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series rear axle (slightly offset to one side). He didn't mention any problems with it and I quizzed him a lot about the swap! It's a different application I know but I...

WJ knuckle swap on a RHD

re: WJ TREs I noticed yours had grease fittings whereas the ones I bought don't (Crown). I'll order some Moog ones because I like to be able to grease them, especially given all the wet, muddy offroad conditions we have over here. You're right about the disconnect mount, I don't think it really...

WJ knuckle swap on a RHD

I have a steering stabiliser on mine, it's shown on the picture below - sorry about the poor quality, someone else took the pic. My disconnect mount is similar to yours but leaning the disconnect slightly outwards rather than inwards. Getting it perfectly straight seems tricky (and probably...

WJ knuckle swap on a RHD

Re: WJ knuckle swop on a RHD It all looks pretty good to me, well done. Your track bar mount looks sturdy enough, as long as all the welds are good (deep penetration) it should be fine. I had to re-fit mine as the first welds struggled to penetrate the axle tube deeply and I got cracks. It is...
