Yea, but you cant get real time accurate readings that way. It would pay to purchase an aftermarket setup that logs knock. Im very tempted to try this our myself with a few modifications.
Ive got the same setup on mine as well. Works well and i trust it much more than the RE hack and tap. Plus if you ever drop a driveline you can always use the exact same one for repairs...which is a front one.
You can get a used Canon Rebel in that range easy. Just get on craigslist.
I woudnt go to best buy unless you want to pay top dollar. Get on B&H Photo, or Amazon. The best deals are found there. You even get nice reviews of everything.
