    98 XJ stalling, just started

I will. It will take a few days though since we are expecting a nice ice storm and I have been cleaning out the mess that some vandals did. They put a coke can through my passenger side rear vent window and stole my Hella 500's. The jokes on them with the lights though because they were...

    98 XJ stalling, just started

I put a new battery in last week but I also noticed the cables seemed a little loose on the terminals. The cap and rotor are a few years old but I completely forgot to check the plugs. I will start with the battery cables and go on down the list. Thanks.

    98 XJ stalling, just started

I have a 98 XJ with a 178K and today was the first time it has stalled. It starts right up and the idle is fairly smooth, zero hesitation when I give it gas but as soon as I let off the gas it starts to sputter and die. If I give it more gas then it will be fine but once it goes back down to...

Brake light came on then brake pedal became soft

I am going to take the hit and replace the wheel cylinders and re-due my rear breaks. The fronts need new pads anyway and why not work on the back too since there is a actual problem. Thanks for all the help. Hopefully this won't take too long to do.

Brake light came on then brake pedal became soft

Thanks for the info. One thing I should have been more specific on was that it is a non-ABS equipped jeep. I will check for leaks both front and back this weekend. I have another DD so I can take my time doing this thankfully.

Brake light came on then brake pedal became soft

I have a '98 and out of no where my break light came on while driving. When I pulled off and tried to stop my pedal felt really soft, like when you are bleeding the break lines and I had to push the pedal all the way in for the jeep to stop. I was able to get it back home safely since I still...

Electrical problem, aux components won't turn off

I have another daily driver and the XJ only comes out about once week. This morning as I was leaving for work I noticed that there was a light on inside the XJ. It turns out my radio was turned on! I opened the door and found that the ignition was in the off position but my aux components...

Not a good day to replace my hubs

I was finally able to get my bearings replaced and wow, what a difference! I never knew how bad the bearings really were until I drove with the new ones installed. The Jeep hasn't driven this smoothly since it was new. A gear puller was used to pry the old hubs off.

Not a good day to replace my hubs

I found out just how hard the pins were, broke 2 different bits! The brake lines, calipers and rotors are only a year old, I found out the hard way what salt will do to them. My calipers froze up while coming down a steep mountain but thankfully there was no one in front of me and I was near...

Not a good day to replace my hubs

I was able to get the caliper pin out, a set of vice grips helped with grabbing the part that was still visible and I was able to twist it out. I thought about drilling it out but I did not want to risk it. The $160 is mostly labor, since everything is still original and it spent a lot of...

Not a good day to replace my hubs

The impact gun made getting the spindle nut out really easy and I tried using the extension but I gave up on it pretty quick. I was working on it on base at the auto hobby shop and they closed at 5. I spent most the day working on getting the stupid bolt out so I ran out of time. The three...

Not a good day to replace my hubs

I tried to replace my hubs today since they are starting to go out and like usual, something broke that stopped the project cold. The upper bolt on my caliper snapped but it could not have snapped in a better place. The part that was able to be removed looked almost new and it broke almost...

    Exhaust question

This was a 2 year old Dynamax Cat back that decided to rust out and fall apart on me. I was able to cut off the old clamp and put on a new tail pipe and hangar. Once I have the money I am going to go a head and re-due the entire system. The muffler and cat are looking to be in pretty bad...

    Exhaust question

Right now I may have to buy a new muffler, the clamps on the old one are rusted to the point that they will not move, the threads are gone and the nuts are falling apart.
