after battling this for a few weeks I final found the issue.
The issue.
I'm only really posting this because my cherokee is electrically in great shape and never given me any issues.
I started with an ignition switch which didn't solve the problem because it turned out I didn't even have any power coming into the cab.
The ignition circuit is surprisingly simple so after I got my hands on a fsm it was a quick fix. We found we had power all the way to the rear of the male end of the bulkhead connector but not to the inside of the plug. Wires looked great and are all still in the factory wire loom.
It turned out the crimp inside the plug corroded and was no longer making contact.
Without that circuit complete you will literally have nothing but headlights and dome light. I punched a hole in the forewall and installed a grommet.
Ran the wire through and made a single splice.
Repair options were that or going to a junkyard and splicing an entire new bulkhead connector and 30 or so wires Into the old harness.
It's going to be a summer project but I intend on eventually doing away with the bulkhead connector and installing a firewall grommet large enough that I can do all the wires this way.
Moisture and dirt builds up inside the body of the plug and leads to corrosion.
It can't be physically seen unless the harness is really pulled out of the socket and looked at well.
