What did you pay for your headlight upgrade?

Honda relays fit the Putco/e-autoworks harness. A whole pocketful of relays cost me $2 for admission to the junkyard.

e-autoworks Honda relay

Honda s2000 2000-2007, Pilot 03-07, Prelude 97-01, CR-V 91-01, Odyssey 95-98, Civic 2d 96-00 or 4d 98-00, Accord 2d 98-02 or 4dr 98-02.

The Honda part number is 39797-SE0-004

I believe that those are "micro" relays as opposed to the standard Bosch ice cube style which are considered "mini" relays. I swear I started a thread telling you how to order replacement relays from the parts store, but I can't find it anywhere.

I brought home a whole pocket full of Honda relays from the junkyard, and they plugged into both my putco_e-autoworks_LMC H-4 wire harneses. Mini, micro, whatever, the Honda ones fit.

Just an FYI. Installed my Cibie 'E-code' H4 upgrade from Daniel Stern today ($380 w/harness and shipping.. yeah, I know $$$). Top quality stuff.

The FYI is that when I finished the installation (4 hours on my own) the high beams would not shut off when I hit the dimmer so I ended up with both Hi/Lo lit when on Lo. Puzzler.
Solution: I have an aftermarket winch bumper and the factory fog lights are disconnected but the wiring, switch and relay are all still in place. After a lot of monkeying around I called Daniel. After pulling the factory Fog Light Relay out of the box under the hood, all was well and working as they should. Daniel says this is common on Subaru but that he'd never seen it on a Jeep.

Also, sometimes aftermarket relays for driving lights might cause the same issue, he says. Then it's a matter of wiring the driving light relay to the new wiring harness Hi Beam wire instead of the factory Hi Beam wire. Since relays require such a small voltage to activate, enough can bleed and activate the Hi Beam relay when not wanted. Same for the fog lights if you want to keep or add them. Just wire the relay that goes to the Lo Beam wire away from the factory wire onto the new harness Lo Beam wire.

Great response from Daniel when I needed him. That's very important to me. http://www.danielsternlighting.com

Also, the aiming procedure from his website is awesome. Sounds complicated when I read it but is really simple and fun and it's good to know my lights are properly aligned. Now I have permanent marks on the inside of my shop door so I can check and realign if/when needed. Now I have to take it for a spin to see if I can see. I might have gotten away with just a harness and relays but figured I'd go full-on from the git-go. The old lights were not good as you well know.

Thought this might save someone time if they run into the same issue.

This is a known issue on jeeps, DS must just not have know that. Rather than using the high beam wire I put a relay behind the driver's side headlight when I added fogs to switch the ground leg of the fog relay to actual ground. I used a SPDT relay so if I add driving lights in the future I can use that same relay as a control for the driving light relay as well so they only work with switch on & high beam on. This will also future proof my install if I ever change to LED headlights.

It's not your fog lights causing that, its happens on some of our rigs from that goofy delay module under the dash. Just unplug it.

Also if you want to get the fogs hooked up with your new harness, look for the thread I posted. The red fog light relay wire, on the driver side, needs to tap into the high beam on your new harness.

Everything will work correctly if you do those 2 things.

Thanks, but it was the fog light relay. I do not have (or want) fog lights but the factory fog light relay was still in place. As I said in my original post, once removed everything is functioning as it should with the new harness, including the aftermarket Vision-X driving lights.

Interesting.. yours didn't come factory with fog lights, but there is a relay for them?

It had fog lights. I removed them when I installed the winch bumper.

About $250 through Rallylights.com. Hella H4's and their wiring harness is made in house with wire from PA, no less. A work of art. Nice guys, knowledgeable. Hella relays and bulbs. Best safety addition I have made. No problem in 3 years.

Has anyone tried these?

$449 from Quadratec.

Gawd, I cant wait until the price on LED's gets reasonable...

$179 from Drivetrain America.

I don't have experience with them, and no I haven't purchased from that website. A member on www.garagejournal.com purchased them and installed them on his van.

They look promising? I might consider these only if they are legal and won't throw light all over the frikken' place. I'm not going to be that guy.

This is something I have always wanted to do since i swapped this front clip, the problem is what the hell kinda headlights work in this set up?

That's $179/piece + shipping. I'm sure you'll need two. I mentioned back in post #18 that I am running these. I bought them back a few years ago. The are legal and they work.

Still $100 cheaper than Quadratec, which is usually outrageously overpriced anyway. :patriot:

Also, I clicked on the YouTube link in your post and it's dead. :dunno:

Edit - Just a bad link.

It took a few months to hit $179 / apiece. It's been at $179 for a few. I'm hoping in a few more it comes down further - but I've really got no complaints with H4s and a harness.

I'm in the process of upgrading. Not going LED but I am looking to redo the harness and relays and add some stronger H4 bulbs in there. I'm pretty sure the DAPO threw a h4 in there but used the stock harness, which I think is the reason I have no high beams:banghead:I swear that guy had the WORST mechanic in the world. I've had to redo everything. literally everything.

So far I'm looking at $49 for the harness and relays and about $50 for some higher output bulbs( since I already have the housings) Sourced from danielsternlighting.com

Hey Neighbor! :wave1: If you figure it out and need some help, let me know. I'm learning, but sometimes you just need another set of knuckles to bust.
