Dual Electric Fan Setup Question

I am looking to upgrade from my mechanical cooling fan and flimsy/broken auxilary fan to a dual fan set up. My radiator measures 11.5 inches from top to bottom. So I believe I am looking for a fan that is 11" in diameter, but for every fan that I see the shrouds seem to be 13"+ in height. So my question is, should I just buy two seperate 11" fans with no shroud and mount them directly behind my radiator, or buy a 11" dual fan setup with a shroud and cut the shroud down to fit on my radiator?

Secondly, is wiring up an electric fan simple or should I buy the relay/wiring harness with the 185/195* thermostat settings?

Thanks!

Running an OEM Toyota Corolla relay box through a BMW coolant switch so it's fully autonomous.

The fan set up was quite easy, just make sure you wire in both positive leads, this provides a better current to the motor, and allows it to spin a bit faster.

Here is the clearance with the YJ bracket.

I run the Ford setup. Fan, relays, dropping resistor (for low speed) and all. I have also tied in my aux fan to come on when my controllerfor the main fan calls for cooling. With the electric water pump, my temps run between 195F and 201F.

Mine is not an inexpensive solution...

I have found that you must use a shroud to get proper cooling and that 10" is the largest fan that will fit without lots of modification.

Agreed, a shroud must be used to get proper cooling, but you can do better then the factory 10" fans.

How about a ~14" fan, fitting inside the factory 15.5" ID mechanical fan shroud.

~5min with a jig saw to lop off the excess crap from the Taurus fan
~30min with some $5 hardware and a 1/4" drill

Yeah, true, I was referring to mounting to a custom shroud. You should be able to fit a 16" fan in the stock shroud with some work.

On my RENIX (closed system) I'm running dual XJ fans on a HAYDEN adjustable controller straight from the battery so that I get under-hood cool down on hot days. It works flawlessly other than when a week ago my controller took a dump and ran my battery dead while i was at a football game. The first controller lasted 3 years so i just spliced in a new one and it works just fine yet again. My RENIX runs super cool with this set-up even in 100* heat and the A/C on

I have the first relay switching the second relay for the second fan so I do not over-load the HAYDEN controller.

My MJ is controlled the same way but with only one fan. When I switched it over to a open system i lost the temp sensor with the new rad for the e-fan.

I have been thinking about doing this for years.... every time I decied to do it something else breaks! LOL!

97+ Aux fan moved over a few inches, trimmed the housing shroud to fit the radiator. Used some angle alum to make some brackets to fit 2 10" fans. I just have the fans wired up to a switch with a simple relay setup. The fans are spaced off the back almost an inch and has a sheetmetal shroud to fit.
