So, I am using a stock size filter and use royal purple. Gonna switch to the mobile 301 next change. My question is approx. how much oil will the 4.0 take then? Also, do I add the ZDDP I place of some of the oil or in addition to it?

i run normal castrol 10w-30 dinosaur oil in my heep. seems to be running fine....i think i might go on to amsoil though....full synthetic on the axles, engine, transfer case, and transmission.

AS FAR AS the shell oil comment goes many many diesel trucks swear by it and it is considered a recommended oil and its not unusual for these engines to go over a million miles


and as for not choseing to run a cat conv. thats your call and your business, but bragging about it is irresponsible, im guessing you are young and dont have children or grandchildren yet.you will find that as you get older that stuff you never gave a shit about seems to matter more. like trying to make sure your great great grandchildren can breathe the air and have some trees to climb on and enjoy. and are able to enjoy the earths beauty as WE know it. not bashing you just trying to let you see the big picture

I think cats are weird, strange things. They freak me out! I'm more of a dog person myself. Gimmie a Yorkie, or a Lab over a Cashmere or one of those Cheshire thingies... And those hairless ones are creepy.

I'm not going to comment on your decision to break US law and remove the convertor. But don't you think its probably not wise to brag on a open forum viewed worldwide that you admit you violated a federal law? One that can bring a 10k and a year in the federal pen.

In the limited research ive done, i dont see the point in anything other than 0w or max 5w oils in any fine running engine. And mobil 1 0w40 has 1000 zddp in it which should be plenty?? And going purley from the engine pressure of my particular vehicle, im inclined to believe its thinner than castrol edge ow30 on the all important cold start up. (by the way i never did find out how much zddp was in the castrol).

Also can it not be damaging to have too much zinc in the oil. Like over 1200zddp??
Theres a couple of companys that claim to produce engine oils like the old fashioned stuff, I think one of them is "redline" or something if thats what your especially after.

If it's really hot you'd want a slightly thicker oil so it doesn't turn to water in the heat.

I wasnt talking about not using a cat here.

I care about money to. Im meaning people shiting on the little guy as long as there making $. People dont really car about other people.

EPA has all the rules to make money. Trust me all that stuff may help but the goverment cares about money before global warmng.

emissions controls help but it is one of the most expensive ways to increase the cost of a car. And more money people have to put out to maintenance it. Its all about making $$$$$$$$$.

Im not going to spend 100 or so to change a cat every time I turn around. They go out so fast.

Then why are people recommending ZDD. The stuff is very harmful to the environment and kills catalytic converters fast. The zinc bonds with those catalyst really bad and clogs them. That is what doesnt make sence to me.

I have to agree here, I posted my nightmare on another thread, but the smog said mine was clean enough without a CAT to pass.

They never have tested me. A cat really doesnt do anything for our jeeps anyway. I have personaly seen, if your jeep is running good, they pass the test without a cat.

Cats just make the engine work harder, thus more smog problems, and makes your engine not last as long in the proses.

besides, air polusion will never be helped no matter how good a cat is. it cant filter out the man things that really cause it. Cars would have to not produce exhaust for that to happen.

I didn't change my cat until about 140k. And then I only changed it due to the E22 recall.I shouldn't need to change it out for a good long while now. And actually, safety is the fastest way to drive up a car's price. Dual airbags mandatory, crash test standards, pedestrian collision ratings, soon to be side airbags mandatory I bet. That stuff adds up a hell of a lot faster than emissions.
