WJ rear seat install questions

xj-grin

NAXJA Member #1096
So, not wanting to be like JohnJohn and ditch the XJ because my boys melons are bound to be bouncing around in back, I should have a nice Agate rear seat from a WJ arriving by FEDEX tomorrow -- searched a bit and have found pictures of installed seats (PM'd the owner of that rig already, no reply), but no detail on what tweaks are necessary.

I don't mine figuing it out on my own, but I hate to needlessly reinvent the wheel and make mistakes I could avoid by asking -- anyone have any tips, advice, LINKS! pictures, etc??

Gracias.

Chris

He is talking about the bottom of the WJ seat. It's a little too wide IIRC, so he trimmed off some of the plastic bottom. You'll see what I mean when you set the two benches side by side.

Yeah I got that, the first few times I read it ;) I'm kindof a visual guy though, and the only pics I can find are completed, without attachment detail...

Alright, never mind ya bastids ;), I figured it out myself:

A little short on legroom, but thankfully my passengers are a little short on leg...

It probably wouldn't be too hard to move it back a little, but I'd have to get rid of my hi-lift mount to do it... mmm maybe after the rest of my projects are closer to complete (given my currnet schedule, not likely...

LOL! Jeezus Chris...... after all that bitching, you don't even have the courtesy to post a pic of the modification you were hoping to have someone else find for you! :twak:

You suck! (n)

Install looks good though.

:D

ironic, isn't it?

actually, the reason why there are likely few install photos, is that it is totally self explanatory how it has to work once you "dry fit" the pieces. I literally drilled 12 holes, put in 12 bolts, and WALA!

Nice install pics XJ-grin. I'm doing this this weekend and I've got a question- looks like from the pic that you've bolted the seat bracket through the floor in a position 90 degrees opened from how it's installed in a WJ- did you modify the seat bracket so that you could fold the seats bottoms all the way up to let the seat backs come down?? The factory brackets on the seats I've got only rotate through about 115 degrees and without a mod I can't do what you did. I'm looking at fabbing a standoff or something but if there's an easy bracket mod I'd like what you've done better because it will look way less kluged together....

I haven't done anything yet, because I think I am going to try and move them back a little more and gain some more legroom. I am thinking I will mount the bench(s) to the vertical metal ridge that forms the bottom of the factory seat, with the brackets in the same position as in a WJ. If you were to bolt to the floor like I did, I think it would only take a minute or two with an angle grinder to get 180 degrees out of the stock WJ hinges...

bitterman, party of one, your table is ready...:gag::cheers:

But where are those 12 holes?

I'm guessing (and can figure out) where the holes for the seat base go, but it's where the ones for the seat back go that I'm not clear on.

Any chance to take those pics?

sorry, I've been otherwise occupied. mock them both up, and install the seatback first, it's pretty intuitive.
