So decided it was finally time to upgrade the stock steering on my '92 XJ. After going through some of the aftermarket steering systems, I finally deciding I eventually want to go with WJ knuckles for my next D30. Not wanting to spend a ton of money now for a steering system I won't be using later, I figured I'd grab a V8 ZJ tierod from the JY.
Figured out nearby JYs want around 30-60 bucks for the tierod, so I priced out a new one at the "new" Crown store down the street on Rt.138 in Stoughton/Canton.
I've been shootin the **** with the guy who works there Jeff for a while (that's his JK in the pic above). He's incredibly helpful not to mention had an XJ before his JK! So needless to say he's VERY into his job which is awesome. He even let me and my buddy Adam (Amber XJ in the pic) check out the warehouse in the back! It was like Jeep heaven with all the bins of parts.
So a ZJ tierod tube with the adjustment sleeve and a brand new tie rod end only cost me about 70 bucks. Can't beat that! Not to mention he had it in the NEXT DAY. He even got in one of the HD steering systems shipped to his store JUST so I could take a look at it. Talk about customer service!
Here's the p/ns in case anyone is wondering...
Tierod Tube
Adj sleeve
Tierod End
The stock tie-rod doesn't even compare...the differences are self-explanatory. Definitely worth the cheap money to upgrade the hollow thing Jeep called a tie-rod.
Comparison Pictures...
All in all it took me about 30 minutes including taking pictures, greasing the joints, checking for clearance, and checking the alignment.
Out with the old...
In with the new...
Clearance at full lock left and right respectively...
And yeah, I know I need a new tracbar :gee:
