Front D/S for Rear

What exactly has to be done for a front D/S conversion for the rear when putting in an SYE? Does it have to be lengthened or shortened or is it a bolt-in? BTW this is for a 99' w/ a 3" OME lift w/ 4* shims. Not sure if that matters or not.

It depends on the transmission and rear axle combo. I have a 95 with the AX-15 and 8.25. When I installed my SYE I knew that I would have to get my driveshaft lengthened. I had a shaft from a 2000 with an AW-4 and had 3 inches added and it works great.

I believe it depends on the type of SYE, as well.
Search on it, but IIRC a front driveshaft will fit a hack&tapped aw4/231 combo without any shortening or lengthening at all.

the AA kit, I don't know. It isn't a hack and tap, it is a new output shaft for the 231 case.

To adapt the front driveshaft for H&T use requires a drive flange adaptor so it will bolt up to the flange installed after cutting the output shaft - part numbers
Spicer Part # 211229x
Rockford Part # R2-21-1229

Also came stock on 1980-83 Ford t-birds
1982-1983 Lincoln continentals
1980-1982 Mercury Cougar XR-7

Above info borrowed from XJbender on pirate4x4 - google searched for ya cause I get curious :spin1:

Stock front will work with AA kit. If you have any doubts, remove your front shaft, install it in the rear.

Do you know if that is dependent on lift height/rear axle?

what about an ax-15 tranny and a 8.25 rear, what would be the right XJ or ZJ to pull for the front D/S to use with a SYE?

I am at 3" and have been using a front shaft for more than 2 years. It is extended to the point where I get nervious when it is flexed on rocks but to date it have remained intact. I have a replacement from Tom Woods that I will install as soon as I find some Spicer 'U' Joint straps here in Des Moines.

I have an AX-15, NP 231, 8.25 and a front shaft from a 2000 AW-4, NP231, 8.25. It was too short so I had it lengthened about 3 inches. I am running at 4.5 inches and using a PORC SYE.

On a 98, 4.0 AW4/231 w/ 8.25" rear... I think a 98 front drive shaft should be the ticket - 30.665 inches... Anyone know for sure before I pick anything up?

My XJ with 3" of lift requires a shaft 32.5" long. I measured it so I could order the correct length from Tom Woods. The 30"er I am using is about 2" too short but it may be OK at stock height. :dunno:

Raising this zombie thread from 07'! :scared:

These driveshafts listed are very close in length, how much adjustment is built into these front stock driveshafts? A few inches I'd image. I have a 9" in my 91" Big Red XJ with 8" lift and my front XJ driveshaft behind the 241 rock track with a stock SYE is pretty stretched out but hasn't failed yet. :worship:

I was planning on using my XJ auto front double cardan driveshafts with u-joints to replace my 98' ZJ 5.9L front cv double cardan ds with 5.5" lift...also to replace LP30 with a HP30. Should be interesting to see if all these variables cooperate!
ZJ stock driveshafts has CV joints as does the LP30 axle shafts so looking to build up a HP30 instead, should help with driveshaft angle too with going up to 5.5"...currently have the 249 but that is another story want a 231 or 242 instead.

I recently just purchased a Rough Country 4.5" Long arm lift and the slip yoke eliminator kit and CV rear d/s for my 99 XJ. i didnt realize til today that the CV d/s DOES NOT FIT with 6 cylinder automatic transmissions.
what would be my best options without spending an arm & a leg?:banghead:

i was told by roughcountry a few days ago that theyre expecting to get shafts for the autos next week. Not sure how true that is but if it is true you could consider contacting them for a swap or something.

only because i contacted them about their xj sye recently
