Alright people, its official!

What: Portland / Vancouver Winter Run (everyones invited) (even you Matt)

Where: TSF Browns Camp.

When: November 25th and 26th (Saturday for sure, overnighter depending on weather)

Who: :NAXJA: members and users with a capable rig and/or driving skills. (Guests are welcome, but they are your responsability!)

I highly recommend front / rear tow points and a strap as i expect the trails will actually be somewhat challenging at this time of year due to weather and such.

We can use this thread for questions and details etc... we can work out the head count later as it gets closer.

Gear up, Get ready, and lets Get Muddy!

Sounds like fun! Those trails would be a lot more challenging sloppy. :)

I'll have to see if my schedule allows as the date gets closer, but tentatively count me in.

i have been working on the jeep since the begining of the year for it to be ready by the time i got my drivers license and this trip is the first one after i get my license ( and have the jeep in one piece), is this something a noob could do or should i just wait it out for a more newb oriented event

if you have 31" and up tires and tow points and a lil bit of experience offroad, i would think u would be o.k. you could post up anytime and i'm sure get a few guys to head up and de-virginize you and your rig B4 November. there are also bypasses at almost every trail at browns camp so if things look a lil to scetchy to ya u can always go around.

Just an idea being thrown out there, if we get enough interest we could seperate into two groups, experienced fast paced and slightly modified slow pace?

Sorry I havent been able to make the M&G's been busy with classes and other junk, will try for the next.

this will probably happen anyway, just based on the response so far. which brings me to question #2. we will need 2-3 trail leaders. who wants to volunteer? 12gauge has already stepped up to be one, so we need 1-2 more.

Depending on if my Jeep is ready in time I maybe able to take a group. If not, I can always ride along with Dvipercop. :)

Well, misunderstood the boss and my new days off ain't going into effect until next weekend, so I'm gonna miss Tahuya this weekend. But I digress, the new tv is almost paid off so I can start saving back money to make the beast mall ready. (mud is over rated, 5" parking bumps is here the excitement is at.) Fender trimming and a new bumper are first on the list of mods (to repair body damage tht occured in n actu; mall parking lot). I should be able to make this one, but I'll keep ya posted on if the rig is ready or not.

I may be able to make it, we'll see.

My only suggestion is for the "leaders" to go a week ahead of time to scout out trails. At NWFest we spent a lot of wasted time driving around down there just trying to find trails that were open.

aussiewheeler, might I suggest you get the warn transfer case skid. It tucks up under the tcase and doesnt hang down and serve as a rock catcher/ road grader than the stock tcase skid does. It gives you several inches of clearance right there whilst protecting the tcase.

thanks for the tip ill look into the warn skids

I wish I could make it. However, none of my jeeps will be available for use by then.

As a warning, you may want to be prepared for snow. Last year I was at TSF during the same weekend and we got heavy snow. We were going to camp that night at the top of crushers and run it in the morning depending on how snowy it really was. There was some snow already, but not enough to keep us off most of the rocks. We settled down for the night inside the trucks around 8:30(too dark and wet..dangerous to run anything at that time) I couldn't sleep, so I poked my head out the door an hour later and my bushwackers had about an inch and a half of the white stuff on them. We threw a couple snowballs at the other truck to wake them up and get a decision as to stay or retreat to safety. We decided to head out as we wanted to avoid any bad situations. We started to pack up and reorganise and it got super heavy. By heavy I mean, 2nd & low gear, wipers full speed, couldn't see 5 feet in front of us. It took us about 3.5 hours to get from crushers out to the highway.

They also sell them at the last gas station on hwy 6 before you get up there, also $10. I know whenever I go up there with people someone forgets to get one before we meet and up and we remember it usually when we are filling up there.

ok, so Ill plan on heading down to Tillamook/Sand Lake sometime Friday. then up to browns camp Saturday.

will the orv permit cover both sand lake and tsf?
also, I think you need an orange flag for the dunes.

hope to have my new spare, and jack by then too.
speaking of jacks, is there anyplace near portland with a better deal on a hi lift or mile marker winch?
thanks for the advice.
see you all there...

i will be in for sand lake as well. camping overnight at sand lake?

-permits good for all of Oregon
-there is a day use fee at sand lake, i think it's $5.00
-flags are required on the sand, must be 9' min.
-not sure about other places, but i paid about $60 for my hi-lift at 4wheel parts.

I'm probably going to be getting my gears done on the d30 within the next week, so I should be able to make it on the 25th. As long as nothing else pops up with my heep. Still not sure if I want to lock up the front while I'm at it.

Anyone had any problem with thier d30 after putting a hard locker in it? I was thinking a lock right. I don't want to put a whole lot of of money into the 30 cause i'm not planning on keeping it very long.

I kina think that we'll play it by ear. sandlake friday - yes. i will probably head up early around 9-10am depending on the rest of everyones plans. will either camp at sandlake or browns depending on the weather. i will be posting another thread soon to kinda finalize everything. sounds like there may only be a few of us in for the sandlake portion. we can deffinately work out the details at the MnG though.

Yes it'll be at Vancouver mall. I was actually going to ask everyone if we should do it the first Monday this month (this coming Monday) So our meeting is not so close to the run, give us more time to finalize everything.

i'm good either way. i would however lean towards keeping it as planned, just so its not a surprise. also i think more people will have a better idea what there personal plans are as we get closer to turkey day. the dates for the run are set, its really just the who and when stuff we need to figure out.

i am undecided as to what i should bring for staying the night up there.
is it fairly easy to drag a tent trailer up to browns camp? sand lake?
are there actual camp sites or is it set up anywhere practical?

what do you guys usually bring? tent or sleep in your rig or other?

mojojojo

-Sand lake has a campground and u can camp on the sand.
-no problem getting a tent trailer up to browns.
-as for me i plan on bringing my tent but depending on the weather i may curl up in the jeep.

This is what i got from PNW4WDA on the 8th

Hwy 6 update:
ODOT has personnel posted at the closures at mp 4 and at Timber Jct. They will not be allowing traffic through unless you are a resident on Hwy 6 or you are Government, Law Enforcement or Emergency traffic. For those they are allowing, sounds like the problem is the slide at mp 28, it is passable around the end of the slide. The ODOT folks at roadblocks are not informed of their strategy to open it up for public use.

I'll try and get an update tomorrow.
