Whats the best way to remove the pinion races in a Dana 30 with out messing up the slinger and the shims?

I'm refering to the races inside the axle housing for the pinion bearing, not the bearings on the pinion

I think you are thinking of the cone part of the bearing (sits in the housing). I don't think you can save the baffle. Use a punch.

The oil slinger is on the pinion.

Known as a race.


But ya, I don't think the baffle is able to be saved.

You can't "save" it but you can hammer it back out if you don't beat it up too bad. I would just order a new one from Randy's R&P

Thanks for the help. I ened up beating it out. Now does anyone know where I can find a new one? I called up a local jeep and they had a hard time finding it. Supposedly it only comes with the shim kit and its $75 but all I need is the baffle.
