 Im new to the whole 16 inch rim thing. which would be better?

235/85R16 or 265/70R16? Im looking at an 01 with 235/85R16 on it.

But theres not much variety in that size. The jeep has a six inch lift so would the 265/70R16 fit? does anyone have a converter chart they know of? It has the rubicon rims and i want to keep them or i would just go back to 15s and 33"s

If you have 6" of lift then 265/75/16's,thats what I run on stock rims.I also run 33x10.50x15's on 4.5"BS wheels

265/70/16 is= to 31", You could fit those with 3" of lift & Moabs, I do!
235/85/16 is= to 32", They should also fit with 3" of lift because of the narrow stance.
With 6" of lift a true 33" tire like a 285/75/16 on moabs should fit without a problem.

Most popular LT235/85R16 tires come in 10 ply. Hows the ride? Sidewall flex?

The other tires you listed are all available in light truck 4 ply or 6 ply.

You should be able to run both those sizes with 6 inches. I would look at the 285/75/16, which is roughly a 33/11.5/16. I have a little over 4 inches and run 265/75/16 on moabs. I rub a little at full lock. I think that if you do decide to run moabs, you might want to look into getting some wheel spacers, since the BS of moabs are around 5".

Converter:
265 / 70 R 16
Section width in mm/Aspect ratio(height=% of width) Height of wheel
So 265mm=26.5cm, 1"=2.54cm. So we divide the 26.5/2.54 (or 265/25.4 if you want to stay in mm) to get 10.43" wide tires. The sidewall is 70% of the tread width, we know this from the aspect ratio. We take 70% of 10.43 to get a 7.3" sidewall. Multiply by 2 since the sidewall factors into height twice. The is 14.6. Now we add the wheel size to the sidewall height and get 30.6. So a 265/70R16 would be 30.6x10.4 or a 31x10.50. :)

Or if you don't like math, you can use the calculator at this link
