Heres the problem:
A few days ago I filled up the XJ with gas. When it got down to about half a tank the check engine light went on. I filled it up and the light went off. When it got down to about half a tank, same thing. Filled it up yesterday and the light went off. Any ideas on whats causing this.

You might want to check the gas cap, if the vent is plugged it can cause that condition

Can you get the code it is giving you? Depends on the year but on mine I just turn the key to on 3 times and the 3rd time the check engine light will blink so if it does just write it down and then post up with that.

Going by your profile you have a 99. Run it by autozone next time the light comes on and see what the code is, and go from there. Autozone will read the codes for free for you.
