Dome Light

Today when I went to start my Jeep, I found that the dome light was staying on. Didnt matter if I had the lights on or off, doors closed or open, or anything like that.

Also found that the interior lights on the doors stay on as well, but no where else.
The light switch isnt on the on possition for the dome light to stay on. Everything else works fine, interior lights and head lights.
'99 sport with 4.0.

Tried pulling fuses and seeing if anything was corroded, or blown. None were.
Anyone have any ideas?

When that happened on my '96, it was because I had accidentally crushed CB antenna co-ax between the door and the spring-loaded pin. That pushed the pin back enough in the housing that the light stayed on. I duct-taped a dime in place on the door and it works.

Go through each door one at a time and manually depress the pins. also look at the rear dome light as a possible culprit; I installed a manual on-off switch in mine for reasons that currently escape me.

I tried the door pins this morning. Didnt do anything unfortunatly.

I discoed the battery last night to keep it from draining the battery. This morning when I went to move it, the lights were off. Two hours later They are back on.

Ill try the rear light right now. See if that fixes anything.
:dunno:

Well, that seemed to do it. I unplugged the rear dome, and they all went off. Plugged it back in, and its back to normal.
Not sure why or how, but its all good now.
Thanks. Never would have figured that out on my own. :D

broken door pin.

When you say door pin do you mean the switch for the interior lights or the metal strap that keeps the door from swinging out?

While driving my lights flicker and it is really annoying. Not nearly as annoying as when the lights stayed on after I parked it over the weekend and completely killed my battery and messed up my ECU so that it wouldn't start...

I need to fix this light problem. I've tried cleaning the contacts on the door switches but that doesn't seem to help.

If it doesn't turn out to be something simple like a door switch. You may have to take up the drivers side carpet and look at the wiring. There is little to no wrapping and if the tape comes loose holding it down it can shift and then you step on it every time you get in and out. Eventually frays the wires and causes a short to ground. The frayed wire and splices on mine kind of looked like a green blob.

I think he means the switch. That strap does nothing other then make sure the door doesnt swing out to far.

Have you messed with the dimmer switch at all? Tried to turn the lights down and see if it happens?

When you remove a door switch, you have to hold the middle and turn the outer housing or the wires wrap around themselves (corkscrew). The last one I took out, somebody had stressed the wires to the breaking point.
