I'm getting ready to install some Hella 500's and was looking around the inside of the XJ and tryign to find a good spot to mount the switch. Where is everybody else mounting them. I thought to the right of the shifter there is a 1 1/2" strip that looks like they could go there but I haven't pulled the console off to see what is under it. If you could post some pics Thanks

I'm gonna make a wild assumption and hope you have a 97+ body style. Anyway, there is lots of room on the armrest/center console. Next to the factory rear wiper and defroster switches. or on the oval/retangular space to the right of the instruments on the dash. I dunno why but the shifter area doesn't seem right for a toggle...the ARB type switches look good there though. I'd say mount it to a vertical surface, even inside the center console.

I mounted my Hella switch to the blank panel left of the column on my '92. There's room for 3 switches there also.

I used the spot where the dash clock would be and mounted 6 switches there.

How does that attach. I was thinking about doing that seeing as my clock doesn't set. I'm thinking about the same number of switches when it's all said and done.

mines on the lower panel about were ur shins sit under the light knob thingy its low but it works all sorts of room on bohmy 91 and 93

I like under the dash, just above my knees for extra switches personally. Easy location to find and drill/wire, and then it doesn't look cluttered on the actual dash. I have an '88 4 door limited.

Mine...Work great except that everytime my friends are in my XJ they want to play with them. (Sorry for the big pics)

I used the plastic piece thats in there if you don't have a clock. I put aluminum sheet over it and drilled the holes. The first one I wired as a power for the other 5 switches. I have a relay box in the back of the jeep to power the lights. I liked the brushed aluminum so I did all the other ones too.

You have to stop posting pictures of those boxes, it makes me feel so bad for being lazy and unable to do simple things with project enclosures. Looks great as always.

I guess it depends on how many extra switches you might (eventually) want to fit. If you only need one or two - eg for spot/foglights - then the neatest solution is to fit them in the blanks in the panels just left and right of the steering column (beside the heated rear screen and/or rear wash-wipe switch).

My '93 had two blank slots there, into which I fitted matching OEM Mopar rocker switches with inbuilt indicator lights for my spotlamps and rear foglamps.

Of course if you plan on a whole bank of switches, the Boeing-cockpit style panel above the rear-view mirror looks good!
