how do you remove the shafts from the housing????? There aren't any retaining bolts like an xj 44, does the shaft just pull out? Any help would be great thanks a lot.

nevermind..........pretty embarassing that i even asked in the first place. I figured it out, i just tightened a chain onto the lugnuts and yanked it a couple times and......presto removed axle shaft

Was it held by anything or just pressed in? What keeps you from loseing the axle going down the trail?
Just asking cause I don't know anything about Isuzus at all. Didn't know until recently they had D44s.

its held on by the plate that the brake caliper and backing mount to, you just remove the 4 bolts on the back of the backing plate and give a good tug. the bearings and seals are held onto the axle by a snap ring.
