Alternator question

No. The 1990 and earlier (w/AMC or GM engine) used a Delco alternator, while the 1991-up (w/AMC engine) used a Nippondenso alternator.

The Delco is internally-regulated, while the Denso is regulated externally by the PCM.

And, I think they use different mount dimensions anyhow. Besides, bypassing the PCM regulator will throw a "hard" code (CEL/MIL lit,) which will fail you on emissions inspection anyhow.

If you want more power, you can get uprated Denso alternators without too much trouble - I've got a guy that does them (San Jose Generator - check him out on my site,) and I'm sure quite a few others do as well.
