Just Bought and XJ? Need a List for 1st Tuneup?

Well I've just bought an XJ and this weekend I'm going to go over it for it's first tuneup. I'm sure many people fall into this category or perhaps just like to have a checklist for when they tinker. I've developed this checklist and hope others can share their experiences or comments to help us.


Easy Squeezy Stuff to Get Engaged
Degrease Engine and Undercarriage
Add Bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner / Seafoam
Check Brake Fluid (DOT 3 SAE J-1703F
Clean Throttle Body
Check Powers Steering Fluid (ATF)
Check Battery Charge, Terminals, Water, and Cables
Check Belts & Pullys
Check for Blown Fuses
Check Fuel Lines, Connections
Check Headlight Alignment
Check Hoses & Clamps
Check Weatherstripping and Apply Silicon
Check Wiper Blades
Check Wiper Fluid - Add Rubbing Acahol
Lube Door Locks
Lubricate Door and Hood Hinges with Light Engine Oil

Under the XJ Stuff
Check Front Wheel Bearings
Check Drive Shaft Seals
Check Exhaust Pipes, Muffler, Heat Shielding, Hangers, etc.
Check Front Brake Pads
Check ShocksCheck Universal Joints
Inspect C/V Joint Boots
Inspect Underside for Bolts and stuff
Lube Ball Joints, Steering Linkage, & Suspension
Lube Drive Shaft U-Joints and Slip Spines
Lube Front Axle Drive Joint and Pivot Bearings
Lube Prop Shaft
Lubricate Caliper Slide Rails (GE 661 Dow 111 Silicone Grease)
Rotate Tires and Adjust Air Pressue (Wheel Lug Nut Torque to 95 Ft. Lbs.)

Under the Hood Stuff
Change Fluid:Front Diff
Change Fluid:Rear Diff
Change Fluid:Transfer Case (Dexron IIE ATF)
Clean EGR Passages
Clean PCV Beather
Engine Compression Ratio s/b 9.2:1
Flush and Fill Engine Coolant (Alugard 340-2 & Water 50/50 Mix)
Replace:Fuel FilterReplace:Trans Fluid & Filter (Dextron IIE - ATF)
Replace:Oil & Filter (SAE 10W-30)
Replace:CCV Valve
Replace:Spark Plugs (NGK Platnium Tipped)
Replace D-Cap, Rotor, Coil Wire and Plug Wires? (Long Plug Boots)
Replace:O2 Sensor?
Replace:Air Filter

 
I also check & spray with electrical parts cleaner all underhood electrical connections. This has found a lot of potential corrosion/connection problems & hopefully helps your jeep run smoother.
