wont start in Park!?!?

Just bought my second cherokee...1997 country...well went to put my sound system in this one and get it out of my trail rig. so i finally got it in...put it in park and tried to start it and nothing...not to sure whats goin on.

One thing i do remember is that to get the dash off i had it in neutral...then when i got done i dont think i put it in park before i connected the battery then put it in park and...tried to start it and nothin???

Any help would be appreciated

So it will start in neutral?
You could have the igniton switch unplugged.

yeah it will start in neutral...and it will start in park sometimes...its really confusing me

Check and clean the NSS, located on the side of the tranny. You might be having issues with the backup lights too.
