I had some plans change, I am thinking of just going and meeting
a group at the trail head. I still don't have a winch, but just got a nice Garmin GPS 76S.

At least you'll be able to tell people exactly where your stuck!

Ha, Ha, LOL. I went out there, and thought someone would be crazy enought to be running it on a stormy weekend, but nobody was home. So I ran it backwards, so I could do the obsticles downhill :) If I did get struck, I would have had to call RI_Earl to come get me :)

Lots of luck. The first time we tried Old Florida Road Earle and I tried calling each other on our cell phones. We could see each other, but the cell phones didn't have any signal out there in the woods.

When are you re-scheduling?

I am trying to put together a small group to wheel "That Road" in North Adams, MA. I will be in Massachusetts visiting family and want to wheel on the Friday after Turkey Day (the only "free" day I have). I have done my homework and have located the trail on maps - will be flying by instruments (GPS).

I plan to be at the trail early (before 10). Just need an experienced and well-equipped trail bud with a well-maintained rig, preferrably who knows the trail, but that is not necessary. CB recommended.

I need to get this nailed down before I leave for Massachusetts early next week. I will have my Dad and my kids along (kids have lots of experience, Dad is a newbie).

Well we went we, we saw, we turned back... The first obstacle was nothing but a sheet of ice. It was still fun but we'll have to come back...

Trip Report (http://4x4icon.com/offroad/old_fla_rd/index.htm)

We went to "that road" on Friday. Got there around 8am. The trail was covered in about 1 inch of snow and lots of ice. Water was running down the trail to the trail head. I disconnected and aired down and we crawled up to the first obstacle. I could barely walk to the rock because of the ice so after checking it out, we decided to come back when it had de-iced. We drove around to the northern trail entrance and in as far as the swamp. The ice was 2 inches thick but broke easily as we drove on it. I decided not to go all the way in because I didn't want to get high-centered on the ice that was accumulating under the frame as we drove.

A hunter that we met told us that a log skidder had removed the rocks protecting the by-pass... We didn't use the bypass. Instead we hit the road after airing up. It was a fun visit and I'm looking forward to going there in better weather!
