Spring pad to pinion angle, D35 vs 44?

89 XJ, 4.5" spring pack, 2" shackle, aa sye.

I'm pullin' the 35 and puttin' in a 44.

With the old 35, my pinion angle was perfect (lined up just below the tcase output) with no shims. Bolting up the 44, and the pinion was obviously low, before the shaft was even reinstalled.

Measured it, and I'm like 7.2* low. I know I can just thrown in a 6* shim, but does this seem weird to anybody else?

Do the different housings have that much differemce in the pad-to-pinion angles?

:dunno:

(Also, who's a good source for shims that thick? Q-tec had superlift shims for $17. Can I do better or cheaper?)

double check to make sure the leafs are sitting flat, but no, its not unreasonable to think that the pads were welded on 7* off. i have about the same amount of lift as you, i only needed 4 deg shims
