'96 TC wiring weird

I have a '96 XJ and I was reading the FSM. The OEM Jeep manual.
In there I ran in to some weird wiring. It looks that everytime you put the TC in to 4WD, a connection (ground) is made to the transmission valve body.
What's the deal?
I thought the valve body's electrical components are the shifting solenoids.

Thats the 4wd 2wd 4wd indicator panel.

Correct, but you can see the wire splicing off at connector C108 and going to the valve body.
It only shows one wire for 4WD LOCK, but the implication is that for a 242 TC, there would be one more.
