Engine temperature

I think my jeep runs to hot. On a normal 70 degree day my engine temperature is about 208 degrees. What temps do you usualy see? Just want to know if this is normal.

Dont worry about it. my 99 runs 210 deg. all the time, even it the Texas summer. Thats where they should be.

Design temp for the AMC242 is 210-215*F - although it is possible to lower it slightly with a little work.

Your operating temps are on the low end of the "normal" range - so nothing to worry about.

Mine runs at 210 all the time, too, but the coolant is in dire need of changing.

210*F on the street
215*F to 220*F in the woods

Also normal - less "ram air" over the radiator at low speeds. The fans compensate, but not very much - there's no replacement for "ram air" when moving forward...

Around town, in hot weather, it's just above the 210 line. If I idle in warm weather, it creeps up to the next line when the electric fan kicks on and cools it down to just above 210. Around town today (it's about 35-40), it was just below or at 210.

Alot of cars temperature gauges are basically three position idiot lights---cold, normal, very hot. Our XJs have actual gauges. It lets you know exactly what your engine is doing, and exactly how neurotic we are about it.
