anyone have any experience with installing the 4.0 motor and tranny from a 2wd '93 xj into a '88 xj?
is there any special mods i will have to do other than the computer, harness , ect?
thanks

Keeping the '88 t-case? I'm pretty sure you're going to have problems with that as the '93 will have a 23-spline output on the tranny but the '88 will be 21-spline.
If you opt to take the '93 t-case as well you may have vacuum disconnect issues on the front axle; I don't know which t-case each XJ in question had but if it's a 231 on the '88 then it will have the disco. Discos disappeared by '93 though so that t-case (whether 231 or 242) will not have the vacuum harness.

If your 88 is a 4x4 then you will need a transmission from a 4x4 to make that work. I know there is a write up on something similar to this. I would research it more.
