OK guys, I know the charts are there, but I always hear of the "automatic factor" etc.
I am wanting to regear and having a tuff time deciding what ratio to go with.
I have a 97, currently have 32" GY MTR's, auto, right now have 3.55 and they suck.... I keep it in Drive. (overdrive to high to stay in OD)
I want to hear guys that have 32" what rpm's they are running at given speeds like 60 and 70 or what ever.
I want to be able to run 70-75 for those once in a while trips.
This is my daily driver, so let me know what you vote for and why.
Thanks,
Jason

You say you leave it in 3rd now, well if you go to 4.56 you will turn about 90 rpm less at 70 mph in 4th, and if you go to 4.88 you will turn about 90 rpm more at 70mph in 4th.
if you have the 8.25 rear axle, it can't be regeared to 4.88, so your decision is easy; 4.56.

For a daily driver....4:10 might be a better choice. I ran 4:56 and thaught I was revving her up a bit to do the 60-70mph thing. I now run 33's and its better on the road and I have not ran into a problem with it off road (yet>)

(but...realy..... if your regearing it...you WANT to off-road it more anyway...go with the 4:56 and live with the revs)

I run 32's with my 5 spd, and hover around 2800 rpm or so at 65 mph. You'd probably be running less rpms with an auto.
The rpm range at 65 - 70 mph isn't too bad with my 5 spd, though my mileage suffers a little. But I prefer the power offroading (and for emergency situations on road), so it's a good trade off that I just live with.
You should be happy with 4.56's and your auto tranny....

I have only a few thousand miles on these 32" and love em, but I imagine if I still have this XJ (unlikely) when they wear out, I will likely go to 33's.
I have a D44 to put in back.
Is there something between 4.10 and 4.56?
What will I turn with 4.10 at 70?
Thanks,
Jason

YOU DO NOT WANT 4.10s!!!
I have 33s for the street (auto tranny), I used to have 4.10, now I have 4.88s. the 4.88s are WAAAAY better. The choice is 4.56 vs. 4.88. Period.

Is there anything between 4.10 and 4.56? I won't go above 4.56 if its similiar to my third gear now.

4.27 in D44 but I don't think you can that ratio for the HP D30.

Don't do 4.11's I have it on my 32's and regret it... I'd rather of gone up to 4.56's. Espically w/ all the weight i've added on, bumpers skids etc...

I run 4.56's. Installed 4.10's originally, and had to get rid of them due to lack of accelleration and very poor gas mileage. I couldn't be happier with that setup now for daily driving on street and moderate wheelin'. I could have saved $800 had I done it right the first time.

I have 4:10 and a auto left over from when I ran 31s. It's tolerable with my 32s but I would like to get 4:56 when I can afford it.

Thats what i run and it is great, with the 265/75/16 i run about 2500-2700 rpm in the 70-75mph. Runs sweeet!!! I drive about 70 miles a day to and from work. All freeway and have no complaints.
