Manual 2nd gear on an AW-4

Searched the thread from April last year about manually selecting 1st/2nd on late model XJ's. Wondering if there is any other info on this mod?
Installed the tera low 4:1 on the XJ, and promptly blew it up.
Besides the usual issue with the transmission slamming into 1st at the most inappropriate times, need to get more wheel speed at times and third is not low enough. Was going up a hill last month, the XJ didn't shift to 2nd, After hitting the rev limiter and getting airborne a couple of times, I made it. But more wheel speed would have helped.
Wondering if anyone has any new thoughts on modifying the TCM on a late model (98-01) XJ?

I do plan to do this myself as well... I want to build it into a series of switches that lets the tcu do it most of the time, but gives me selection when in 1-2 gear.
