Skid plates

Trying to get all the armor I need put on over the winter so I can go to Moab in the spring. I am going with the AJ rock siders since most of you did not like the Tomkin ones. However, for a gas tank skid are the Tomkins bad too? I need something sturdy and reliable but under $200. Also, would it be a good idea to put on control arm skids?

hit the junkyards - quite a few stock cherokee's came with gas tank skids. shouldnt run you more than 100 for the bolts, nutcerts (i know thats the wront name for them), and skid.

there was a good thread about skids and the order they should come in a little while ago.

for the LCA skids - get the weld on kind then you dont have to worry about bolts shearing off.

you can buy huge as tank skids from many people

as far as skids go - check out DPG off road's t-case skid
i'd go with that one if i were to do it again...

There is a guy in the vendor forum who is giving killer deals to NAXJA members.

He cut me a gas skid for $80 shipped. Check it out.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38140 Heres the thread I just made a few days ago... if that doesn't work then just search NewB(Skid Plates or Skids)

For the LCA's I ordered a pair from http://jksmfg.com/ for $30 and they're just weld ons. and then for the gas tank i ordered from rustys for like $220 and then for the T Case i ordered from RockLizardFabrications.com... i think its the same or similar to dpgs.and that one was like $170

wow you spent 600 on armor? i think i spent 160 for:
front - stock
Gas Tank - stock
T-case - stock
Rustys engine/tranny
Rusty's t-case (replaced stock one)

i wish i could afford that...

Yes, deals to users as well.

Filling in some gaps with him right now in missing minor parts. The scrap yards around me gouge so his prices are great to me.

Transfer case skid for $25...not bad.

Ivan you need to start hitting up Ecology and Pick a Part. If you're dealing with Scooty's yeah you're getting gouged.

So far all that I have is the TomkinTcase skid. It's taken a few hits and seems to be holding up well. Probably going to go with the AJ's rock rails and Tomkin gas tank skid. I live 45 mins. from the Tomkin factory so I can save money on shipping there. I'll look at Poison Spyders and Rusty's though and see what I think. Check there prices on LCA and differential skids too.
I definitly need the rock rails as I have put about half a dozen dents in that area already.
Thanks.

I have Skid Row plates on mine. The fit was excellent and I've beat the hell out of them with no problems. They have an engine skid, transfer skid, control arm skids and I think they just came out with gas tank skid.I have a stock(Jeep) gas tank skid on mine. www.skidplates.com

ouch. $600 on armor.... i think I'd have spent the $450 on a MIG and a little time learning to use it.

Oh wait-- I did. ;)

<tongue in cheek- don't get irate!>

i like the 2x4 - covers more area and looks nicer....

Looking at the pictures on the Aj's website. It kind of looks like the 2"by4" has the mounting bars and they stick out past the rocker panel and then the actual 2"by4" protection starts. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. I can see why the 2x4 would be better probably though.
