When installing new spark plugs, what torque value should they be tightened to? For some reason 20 ft/lbs is stuck in my head but I couldn't find any reference to it.

If you don't mind, call me at 410-491-5062.

Thanks.

Brian

Sorry. It's a 2000 XJ w/ the 4.0.

Please help me out here. I don't want to tighten them down until I know the correct torque value.

fsm says for a 97 it is 30 ft./lbs.

Turn the plugs in till the gasket seats then about 1/4 turn more. Use anti sieze on the threads even though it is an iron head as a safeguard. Judd

For sure it's a 'one grunter', the 1/4 turn is a good visual measure. However if you pull them out or loosen them again the 1/4 turn trick is not accurate as you crush that gasket down some. I don't even think about it any more, I just do it till it feels right but then I've probably done a 1,000+ plugs over time, not counting my 2 cycle MC's, those plugs usually came out 5-6 times a day to get cleaned :)
