85 XJ 2.8 questions....

Is the 85 XJ 2.8 the same engine as the 85 GM (S-10) 2.8? Do they have the same intake manifold?

Yep, and yep. Another good swap might be the top end of a 3.1, or maybe a full swap of the 3.1/3.4 from an S10, Astro, or an F-body.

You might want to think about getting at least the top end and electronics from a 3.1, that would get you PFI and a slight improvement in performance and efficiency...

Yes, it's the same engine. But be aware that all 2.8's are not created equal. I don't recall all the differences, but someone far more knowledgeable than myself insisted that the 88+ model year 2.8's are "twice the engine" that early 2.8's are.

BTW, assuming you keep your present engine - while the MPFI swap of a Lumina 3.1 intake is a good upgrade, a TBI swap from a 91-92 rodeo or 89-91 trooper is 95% as good, half as much work, and 1/4 as much money :cheers: :cheers: (especially if you use the throttle body from a 4.3L engine with the 2.8l injectors, and bore your manifold to match the bore of the 4.3L TB :cheers: )
