custom front bumper question,

..have some pieces of 1/4"inch mild steel just laying around in the shop and wanted to know if this thickness would be appropriate for fabricating up some bumper attachments between the unibody frame mount and a front winch bumper- I am torn between attempting to fabricate a lightweight enough front winch bumper and not comprise strength - Wondering if I should just move up to 3/8"inch ?

Mine is made from 3/16" and is plenty strong. 1/4" would be more than enough.

My mounting tabs are 1/4" but everything else is 3/16" or .120".
