Harness bar question

I have the D and C Extreme cage. I have a 2 door XJ and think the Harness bar will make it too hard to get in and out of the car for the back passengers. Does it do anything structurally or is it just for seat belt harnesses?

It definitely increases strength in a roll over.

Thanks Old_man. Maybe I will just work some bend into the pipe to make it usefull and easy to get in.
