Two dumb questions ...99 5 speed, can the shifter knob be removed? And how do you pull up the shifter boot? Thanks

Bump - same question, I have a 98 5 speed, how do you remove the shifter knob to be replaced with an aftermarket one?

Take a thin knife blade or tiny screw driver and pop the "shift diagram" cover off the shift knob for access to the mount....

the knob unscrews from the shaft.

if you want to replace then entire shifter assembly that's a different story.

don't cut the rubber dust boot under the console, you can't replace it and it will let heat and nasty smells into the cabin.
