Shift points 2000 Cherokee 4.0L aw4 Transmission

The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is adaptive. If you drive gently it holds gears longer. If you drive sporty, it shifts sooner.

Towing, or going uphill, steep incline will change them too. And a bad TPS will screw with points too.

Here is an old thread that had a long discussion about the shift points.

Mine are all Renix rigs, 87-89, so they may be different.

The only really well known shiftpoint is first to second in the 1-2 gear position, it's approximately 4500rpm or near redline. I'm reasonably certain that throttle position doesn't make much difference but honestly if you hit 4500rpm with the shifter in 1-2 you are probably giving it the stick :firedevil

The rest are, as everyone else already said, adaptive.
