I'm lifting 4in, swapping in a Dana 44, and swapping in a 231 with a SYE already installed into my 98 XJ AW4 with 231.
Got the first two completed but ran into a snag this morning when trying to install the new SYE tranfer case. Apparently, the SYE TC I have is from an AX15 tranny that has the longer input shaft. I have the 231 with the medium input shaft. So, what are my options. How easy is it to move the SYE from one case to the other? Is it as simple as unbolting the housing, pulling it out and bolting it back in? Can a machine shop chop the additional .4" off the longer shaft without having to take the input shaft out of the case?
