I just bought my 94 jeep cherokee sport and when i start it in the morning it makes a grinding noise...but when its in ang gear the sound goes aways or when i drive and the engine is warm it goes away...HELP

Do you have a/c?

The compressor clutch will engage if the HVAC controls are left in defrost mode when you shut down the engine or anytime you turn on defrost mode.

Have had a number of vehicles that would sound like hell first thing in the morning when that happens--Ford Windstar, Nissan Quest, Plymouth Voyager all have that tendency.

Ok, try making sure the HVAC is set off of a/c or defrost when you shut down, better yet unplug the compressor clutch and try starting it like that a few times to see/hear what happens.

PS--moving this to OEM Tech forum.
